Is Your Bottled Water Really from the 'source'?

Laura Ward
Many people, like myself, prefer drinking bottled water instead of tap water. Supposedly, it is bottled from the source and goes through a purification process that eliminates any unecessary bacteria and minerals that we do not need and should not put in our body. However, there has been a great deal of controversy over this lately it seems.

Some major companies have recently been accused of using tap water in their bottled water. They claim that it comes from the source and goes through a purifcation process, but does it really? It is said that atleast 25% of bottled water is actually bottled from the tap, despite what the water manufacturer actually is willing to claim.

I put bottled water up to the test and found many differences in taste. Yes, all bottled waters are going to have different tastes if they truly are bottled from the source. However, in different parts of the country water has a different flavor. Drink a glass of water from the tap at your house and then drink a glass of water from a friend's home in a different area. Drink brand A of bottled water and then drink brand B. Could you tell a difference? You may have been able to tell a distinguished taste from one kind of water to another. Who is to say that the water you are drinking isn't actually being taken straight from the tap and poured into the bottles?

From what I discovered, some companies actually do bottle their water from the tap. If you look closely at the bottle or the cap, you will be able to tell where the water was actually bottled at. The bottle will usually say "from a municipal source" or "from a community water system". With that information, you will know that the water is actually from the tap.
