Lets say about two months before the end of your car lease you decide to call the dealer or he/she calls you. (Don't wait to the last minute to start negotiating your options) You discuss your options. The results aren't good because of your current financial situation.
You can't buy the car with dealer financing. Maybe you just lost your job, your credit score is too low to qualify for any financing or you just can't afford the new payments.
You can't lease another car because of the same reason(s). And, your not very happy about the day that you have to give the car back. Especially if you may owe for putting more miles on the car than what was agreed upon in the lease or have dings and dangs on the car that YOU will have to pay extra for.
There is another option you can pursue in this situation. You can ask the dealer for a extension on your lease. Every car lease situation is different so if it is available to you than you should take advantage of it. This is my first experience with leasing a car. I have purchased with financing my last two cars at different dealerships.
So, there I was sitting with the dealer and discussing my financial situation. And, at the last minute he comes up with the idea for me to call Ford Credit (Yes, it's a Ford car & I absolutely love it) and ask for a two month extension. So, I take the number and call. They send me some papers to fill out and sign and fax back to Ford Credit. The extension is never more than two months with Ford credit but I am grateful for the extension. I believe I was given the extension because of my history or making my payments on time and taking great care of the car.
An extension may allow you to get financing else ware or get a better or another job to make the payments. Hope this advice helps.
