Vacation time is approaching fast. If your like many you probably have your summer spot booked. However, is your car ready for the trip? You have planned your vacation well but did you forget to get your car ready for the trip? A few tips will help you not only have a great summer vacation but a safe one.

Its important you have your car in for routine maintenance. Don't leave town without having your car looked over. If you know something about cars you can inspect some of these yourself before you have it serviced so there is no surprises.

Check your fluid levels. This is very important that you make sure your fluids are at the proper levels. If you find some fluids that are very low you might want to check underneath the car for leaks. It's important that your transmission, brake, radiator fluids are within normal levels. Don't forget your windshield washer too. Summer outdoors has many bugs and you will want to clean your windshield.

You also will need to check your tire levels and tread. If your tires are worn or have little tread left you will want to have new tires put on before you go on your trip. Safety is important here. The roads get a lot of traffic in the summer time and you may need to stop quickly. Your tires must be able to stop and travel through rain without hydro plaining.

Your brakes need to be inspected. Not just the fluids but to make sure that you can stop when you need to. Excessive wear needs to be replaced so that your brakes work efficiently. This will not only save your life but others as well.

Make sure your oil has been changed recently and you have had a lube job. This is important so your engine runs efficiently. You don't want your engine damaged cause you were very low on oil.

Hot weather can affect your engine so your radiator needs to be filled properly and inspected. If you have not had a flush and fill lately this would be a good time to have it done before you go on your trip.

Inspect your belts to make sure they are not worn or loose. Your belts are not expensive but will sideline you quickly if they are loose or break from wear and tear.

You will want to have your air conditioner inspected and serviced if needed. No need of being uncomfortable from an air conditioner that quits half way through your trip.

Make sure your car is equipped with emergency equipment. You should have some things with you like bottled water, flashlight, first aid kit, etc. make sure you have a couple flares in case you break down on the road.

A cell phone is good thing to have with you in case of emergencies. If your car is equipped with a GPS tracking system this can help you find out where you are in case an emergency happens.

Its always good just to be prepared for those summer vacation trips and you will have peace of mind in case something happens.
