Is Casino Royale True to the Bond Brand?

James Kent
Recently I had the opportunity to see the latest James Bond movie and after being really exited to see it was left a little disappointed. I think the first thing that strikes you is how different it feels. The casting of Daniel Craig in the role wouldn't have been by first choice, but I am prepared to give him a chance and I thought he did fairly well. Now forgive me, but when I tune in for an action movie I expect to see an action packed movie but I felt it was lacking in that regard. The movie does have elements of every good Bond movie such as the girls, cars, explosive action, but generally not enough of it. The movie is all about telling the back story behind Bond, but the question is do we really care. Bond use to be a simple movie involving actions, cars, women and all the things we love about movies. In the latest movie there are no real gadgets to speak of and somewhat limited action scenes. Even the footage of the Aston Martin is limiting and somewhat disappointing as there is no real car chase and no usual gadgets. As for the torture scene well I think that would be better placed in another Daniel Craig movie. Bond himself has taken on a very different demeanor and this may be partly a result of casting Daniel Craig in the role. Instead he doesn't seem too bothered about his appearance and generally a bit rough round the edges. Bond is also a bit of a rebel. The question is are these changes for the better in my opinion they are not. For the next movie Bond 22 I would like to see a return to the old format and just give us an action packed movie because that is what fans want. We don't need to see Bond's sensitive side and let's give Craig the chance to prove he can be a great Bond. There are good things about this movie and I like to see bond given a rougher edge. I just want to see a bit more of the elements that make great Bond movies. Hopefully these will came back in future movies as we get the Bond brand back to its best. Generally I would say the movie was average, but could be great with that bit more action.
