Is Christian Bale Having a Nervous Breakdown?

Holy meltdown, Batman! What is actor, Christian Bale, thinking these days? For a man who should be on top of the world due to the outrageous box office success of the Dark Knight, he has onlookers worried. Two days prior to his arrest for alleged assault against his mother and sister, the winged superhero was causing a ruckus stateside.

On Friday, July 18, Bale was witnessed by hundreds of people on the set of Terminator 4, now in production on Kirtland Air Force base in New Mexico. His outburst came after cinematographer, Shane Hurlbut (I can't make this stuff up) apparently flubbed a shot. Bale was seen flailing and yelling things like, "I'm going to kick your ass!" among other lovelies. His publicity team has stated that he is "extremely tired and having a bad day." Could it be that he was anxious about his upcoming reunion with his mother and sister in London?

Bale was arrested Sunday in London where he was staying for the Dark Knight premiere scheduled for Monday. There was apparently a family altercation at Park Lane's Dorchester Hotel that night. There have been varied reports about the incident. Some have reported that Bale pushed is mother, Jenny, 61, while others claim that he brushed by her in an angry huff to leave. Though claiming that they were not the ones to call police, Jenny, along with daughter Sharon, 41, visited a local police station to file complaints against the actor. Bale visited the police station, of his own accord, to file his report about the incident.

So what has the outwardly calm actor so ruffled? It's anybody's guess. Bale moved from Wales to L.A. when he was seventeen. His mother and two sisters stayed behind in Wales and Bale had only been back once to visit. Bale had originally moved in with his activist father when he came to America. The elder Bale died in 2003 and Christian was by his side. Perhaps there is a family dynamic at work here that, because he has avoided it, has gone unnoticed by the general public. Reports from the Uk Telegraph mention a long-running family dispute.

Now that the heated meeting between family members has passed let's hope that this is the last time we'll hear about this kind of behavior from our favorite man in black. At 34, the actor still has a lot to surprise adoring audiences with.
