This is not to say that books on Christian Inspiration cannot be inspirational, but it seems to me that Christianity is not the only source of inspiration available. True, Borders as a business is more concerned about stocking what sells rather than being committed to diversity of shelf on its stocks, but it seems to me other religions often have more to offer in the way of inspiration. Too often, the authors of books on Christian inspiration are trying to tell us that blind obedience to an ancient book will solve all our problems. Is not the Buddhist message of do not believe anything I say without proof a far better message to give people?
This does not mean I do not find Christian inspiration to be totally without merit, I just question when the author is trying to tell us blind obedience or any form of obedience without first thinking about it as a virtue. This is not that I feel anything is wrong with phrases like "Pray for those who persecute you" or "Blessed are the meek." but that I find a problem that those who use a book over 2,000 years old as their ultimate authority on life.
It may just be that I didn't look enough in the inspiration section to find books that weren't Christian inspiration, and I should have taken a longer long, but I shortly wondered into the psychology section where there were other books that quickly caught my attention. I suppose books of Christian inspiration have their place, but it seems to me that limiting yourself to the inspiration provided by one religion in times of crisis may not always be the best solution. Who knows? Maybe Monty Python got it right when the people at the back of the crowd listening to the Sermon on the mount said "blessed are the cheese makers."

"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.'" 1 Corinthians 1:18-19, New King James Version (NKJV)
God's truth and His Word are not daunted by men's lack of faith.
"For what if some did not believe? Will their unbelief make the faithfulness of God without effect? Certainly not! Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar." Romans 3:3-4a (NKJV)
I avoid that section of the bookstore, so I wasn't aware of the bias. It looks as if there's a good writing opportunity here.
And--I've always wondered why christians need so much inspiration--daily quotes, revivals, etc. Maybe faith is a shakier support than they'd like us to believe.
I feel compelled to state the Latin root for "education," educo, and the fact that it means 'development from within.' - I don't know if there's a seperate section for "philosophy," but 'philosophy' has always seemed more-inspirational, to me, than a reminder that there's some dude with phenominal power that's alright with humans' wrongdoing.
I wish AC hadn't published this so quickly, I was waiting for a chance to revise my draft.
For most closed minded Christians the answer to your question would be yes. These folks never have the opportunity to experience the truths written by folks that believe in Spirituality but not religion. Men and women have taken some great Spiritual teachings and bastardized them to create a religion. Too bad most are too closed minded to see that. Thank You fer sharin'. ;-}}>
