Is Christopher Columbus a Hero or Villian?
Christopher Columbus can be considered a hero for his work on Christianity. After Christopher Columbus had come to the "New World" he establishes the first European colonies. Within these colonies he spread his teachings of Christianity. Soon after Christianity had spread without the east coast of the "New World". From America Christopher brings back spices and riches to Europe.
Later Christopher Columbus went on another journey. He discovers many islands in the Indian Ocean, here he once again teaches his ideas on Christianity. Columbus often gave goods and clothing to these islands (Charis, Matenin, Espanola, Juana). He knew that if he gave these gifts to the people they would worship him as a god. Once he became god of these people he spread his teachings of Christianity. After his return to Europe, many people were lead to believe they could explore and sail. People started exploring the sea which eventually over time lead to more discoveries.
Columbus can also be called a hero due to his extensive trade and discovery. Christopher Columbus starts cultural exchange between Europe and America. Because of this millions of people start to migrate to the Americas bringing their art, music, science, medicine, philosophy, and religious principles. Columbus traded with the newly discovered "New World" and islands also. He brings back many new riches, gold, other medals and spices to Europe.
A hero is a name for Christopher Columbus. He has helped advance the world in many ways. He has spread his ways of religion to various parts of the world and had extensive trade with the world. The world would be a very different place without Christopher Columbus.

Post a CommentMongo, it must be said that Columbus didn't want the administrator job. The Spaniards didn't listen to him as he was Italian & he couldn't control their conduct. But in the end, what the Spaniards did is the lesser of 2 evils. If the American Indian cultures had continued,human sacrifices would've continued. The American Indians didn't live in peace before the Spaniards, etc. came. The American Indians or Native Americans lived like street gangs. The world's a better place because Native American cannibalism, etc. were abolished, though @ heavy price. The idea that the Native Americans are = to other cultures is wrong.
He was a Murderer, and killed off Many Native Americans, he was not the first to discover the New World, the Vikings were. and even though many Native Americans DID practise Cannibalism, war, and sacrifice, not ALL were like this, Pro-Columbus people will say he ended Savagery, and Anti Columbus people will say he was a murderer, he was more of a Murderer than a man who brought 'Two Cultures Together'
Added note, what my point is that the Amerindians fought eachther for territory, committed human sacrifices & were not living in peace & harmony. The Caribs who Columbus encountered practiced cannibalism. Yes, the Europeans brought colonization to the Americas. If there are injustices happening today to the Amerindians, then by all means redress them. But what is past is past. Let Europeans & Christians celebrate Columbus. The Europeans weren't perfect but in the end los conquistadores are the lesser of 2 bads. They ended Amerindian barbarities & the Europeans taking over the Americas while not good is better than the Amerindian practices which was before them.
Christopher Columbus did NOT introduce slavery. The American Indians had this before he came & Amerindians killed eachother for territory. Columbus could not control the Spaniards behavior. While los conquistadores of the 16th Century after Columbus did atrocities, los conquistadores are the lesser of 2 evils. They abolished Aztec, Incan & Mayan sacrifices. Amerindian customs were violent & while the Whites did bad things, it's better the results were the way they were as they ended Amerindian barbarities.
Christopher Columbus deserves credit for his work. He didn't introduce slavery & the Spaniards didn't respect him as he was Italian. Also the Amerindians weren't living in peace before Columbus's discovery. They enslaved eachother & killed for territory. It's that the Europeans had better weapons.
American Indians need to stop complaining about the fact that they lost the wars. Before the Europeans came, they killed eachother. True los conquistadores of the 16th Century did bad things, but they're the lesser of 2 evils & abolished human sacrifices.
You people let presentism cloud your minds. Columbus, whether you like it or not, was only doing what leaders of his time did regularly. Was he any worse than the king who ordered the inquisition. Was he worse than the khan who nearly eradicated islam. What about the French and English who burned heretics to the ground. Columubus today would be demonized however back then it was common procedure.
Considering most of the people who commented on this can't spell simple words, I don't think anyone should believe any of them. Besides, without him, the Europeans eyes would never have been opened to new trading opportunities. Thus, America today would cease to exist. So, if you're American and you're saying he's such a "villain", think again. Sure he did terrible things, but I'm sure your ancestors did, too.
