The wrestling world has been saying that CM Punk's contract with the WWE ends in Summer of 2011 and that was confirmed by CM Punk himself. Wrestling websites and many fans had a hunch that Punk was going to retire soon, and Punk went on air and said that after MIB that he will be retiring from the WWE. One has to ask though, is CM Punk really going to retire or is the WWE going to be able to convince Punk into resigning a contract with the WWE?
I think that Punk will end up staying with the WWE but he will end up taking a few weeks off and return at SummerSlam 2011 to continue his feud with John Cena. I think that it is possible that Cena will win his match against CM Punk at MIB, and then Punk will cost Cena the WWE title at SummerSlam. I think Punk will stay with the WWE because it seems that the company wants him to stay and they are giving him a main event spot at MIB to persuade Punk to stay with the company. Rumors are circulating that John Cena asked for a feud with Punk in an attempt to convince Punk to stay with the WWE.
Hopefully the WWE finds a way to keep CM Punk on the roster. The WWE has way too many wrestlers who are not really believable main eventers, participatingin main event matches. Think about it, John Cena defending the title against R Truth as a heel? What about when Ziggler chased Edge for the title? Punk is main event status and is a believable main eventer, and keeping Punk on the roster is definitely a good thing. When Wade Barrett left the Nexus I thought that the group was going to fall apart, but Punk kept the group together and even maintained their popularity.
We have to wait until after MIB to see if Punk will retire for good or stay with the WWE. I for one am rooting for Punk to stay with the WWE and I believe that he is just going to take a short break.
