Colon cleansing is becoming more and more popular among health experts and enthusiasts who are looking to cure health issues related to the digestive system. Most alternative treatments are open to debate and this is also the case with colon cleansing. Before we can give a yes or no answer to this question, let's take a look at the different kinds of colon cleansing processes typically used today.
Colon cleansing processes can be split down the middle into two different types. The first one requires the ingestion of certain herbal capsules, laxatives, and other supplements over a given period of time. The second type requires flushing out the colon using either colonic irrigation or an enema. This flushes out the toxins and waste matter that have built up over time.
So, how safe is the use of herbal laxatives and herbal supplements to cleanse the colon? Well, the answer here is that these methods are completely safe so long as the supplements you are taking are pure and natural and not likely to be habit forming. You should also be aware that some of the herbal and natural laxatives could potentially become habit forming. If you take a product for a long period of time, you may find that your colon starts to depend on it in order to function properly.
Fortunately, the majority of colon cleansing products available today are not habit forming, but it is still sensible to ensure you check all products before you make a purchase. This is the only danger sign to look out for with herbal supplements. Other than that they are completely safe. Once you have completed your first colon cleansing course, you will find you are feeling a lot healthier and your body will be able to defend itself against other harmful elements that could have a detrimental effect on your health. Another thing you will notice is that your bowel movements are more regular and you will experience far less stomach cramps and headaches. You will have so much more energy and your metabolism will improve.
Let's take a look at colon cleansing using hydrotherapy methods, or enemas and colonic irrigation as it is more commonly known. These methods present a little more risk than herbal supplements. Old fashioned enemas are not that effective and have been superseded by modern hydrotherapy treatments. Much of the danger linked with colonic irrigation was due to the fear of introducing bacteria and infection because of unclean equipment. These days however, most colon hydrotherapy practitioners use equipment that is disposable, or has been sterilized thoroughly before use.
Risk of bowel perforation is eliminated due to water being slowly introduced into the colonic system instead of being pumped into the bowel using a pressure pump. As well as this, the colonic cleansing kits used these days work in such a way so that the temperature and pressure of the water that is flushed into the body are carefully controlled. This stops the body from being overcome with trauma or shock. People may try to tell you different, but the risks of bowel perforation or any other issue are zero if the practitioner follows the correct techniques.
Despite the knowledge of colon cleansing being completely safe, it is not advisable for those who suffer with kidney or heart diseases, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis or any colon or anal diseases. Before you start on any course you should always consult your doctor to ensure that the methods you choose are right for you and your body.
