Is a Discounted Home Computer a Good Idea?

Erik Van Tongerloo
However, the prices for computers dropped very much; the new models are still expensive and offer many features you probably don't need. Before you start with searching for a new computer you need to know which requirements you need and the budget you can afford.
Maybe your budget is limited and the choice for a discount computer can be a good idea.

Try to figure out which requirements you need but pay attention to upgrade possibilities of your computer. The requirements of today can be different compared with these you can have within one year. When the intern memory can't be expanded you probably need to buy another computer. Try to avoid this problem!

Which are now the requirements where you have to consider about?

1) For which applications do I need my computer mostly?

2) Do I need a fast computer?

3) Do I use my computer often for graphic work or do I want to save many pictures on my hard disk?

4) Which is the intern memory that I need?

5) Is fast Internet browsing important?

6) How many USB ports do you need?

7) Do you often play games?

8) Do you want to install a lot of software and are these powerful?

These questions are important for the technological requirements of your computer. When you use your computer mostly for graphic work and saving pictures on your hard disk it is important that you pay much attention on the graphic card, the intern memory and the speed of the processor of your computer.

There are games where you only need the minimum requirements but mostly the professional games require at least a 128 meg graphics card and 1 gigabyte of intern memory.
For usual applications the standard home computer with 512 megabyte of intern memory is high enough to work on an efficient way.
USB ports are important if you want to connect your digital camera, a second hard disk, an external DVD writer or some other gadgets.

The service is also important especially if you don't have the knowledge to do the repairs by yourself and if you need assistance of a company for fixing technical problems.

When you are sure about the requirements you need you can go searching for the available discounts on the market. Online shopping is the easiest way to find discounted home computers. Almost every brand has a website and offers you almost every month some discounts for home computers but don't expect to find these deals for a new model.

There are many reasons why a home computer can be discounted and an important one is that the factory has rebuilt the computer because of some defects in the past and these defected parts are replaced by some new ones. These computers are called refurbished home computers. This can be a good option if you don't need specific requirements but personally I don't like this kind of discounts because there is always some doubt about the replaced parts.

Another reason can be some promotional actions like Christmas or some monthly or annual actions. Probably these actions are not for a recent model but if the computer has the necessary requirements you need you might to consider buying such discounted home computer.

An important issue you need to check if you buy a discounted home computer is the warranty which you get with your purchase. Well known brands like Hp, Dell, Apple and some others will give you the security of a warranty with your purchase online. Also other discounts which you get for shopping online are good advantages which these companies you can offer. It happens often that you can read on their website to receive a discount of a certain percentage if you buy a computer online. It is important to check if the costs for shipping are not too high.

A site like Ebay is often the cheapest deal for a home computer but the disadvantage is that you are never sure about the warranty and even shipping costs can be high. Personally; I will never buy a discounted home computer on this site because there is a high chance of technical problems with your computer.

A local computer shop is often the best choice if you don't have any knowledge about technical stuff. They care for the necessary repairs and you are sure about the warranty which you will get. The service is often much cheaper than in case you buy a discounted home computer online.

My conclusion about buying a discounted home computer is that if you have the necessary knowledge about technical stuff or you know someone who can do the possible repairs you can make a great deal on a cheap price; otherwise you can better buy your home computer by your local computer shop.

Very good approach at tackling a subject many people struggle with. Its great idea to think of how you are going to use a computer instead of what all the bells and whistles are.
