Is the Dollar Store Worth It?

One of the most surprising stores that is on the rise and increasing in number is the Dollar Store. The Dollar Store is also very similar to the 99 Cent Store. These stores sell all items for one dollar or less and more and more people are flocking to these stores. The question is why? Also, are these stores really worth paying one dollar for?

The Dollar Stores have been expanding in size to carry a wider variety of items for consumers to buy. Now you can find almost any kind of item including food, hand soap, school supplies, Christmas decorations and much more. All of these items are one dollar. When you are buying an item for one dollar you must realize several things upon your purchase of the item. First, some items sold in stores are sold for slightly less than one dollar. These items include gum, soda, tissues, pencils, pens, etc. Other items that are sold at the Dollar Store are usually much more expensive in other stores. So the question you should ask yourself is: Why is this item so much cheaper in this store? That question also has several responses. Almost all of the items being sold in the store are not your typical brand name. Instead of Pepsi Cola, the soda is being replaced with a no name brand like Shasta Cola or Sam's Cola. Instead of Sony Wireless headphones, the store carries a different brand of headphones.

Another important thing that you must realize that in addition to the brand being different, the quality of the item is different. I recently bought a pair of wireless headphones from the Dollar Store. The same wireless headphones that come with the Apple Ipods I was amazed to find at the Dollar Store. I thought that I could save around twenty dollars by buying them at the Dollar Store. I had the new headphones for less than one week before they broke. The lesson learned here is that the quality is much worse for items being sold at the Dollar Store.

The other noticeable thing that you should realize is that many products have beyond the expiration date for usage. This includes food items like a bag of chips which are probably stale and chocolate bars which are probably too hard to eat.

The other possibility that you might want to consider is that some items may be legitimate and worth buying. Many items can be bought in bulk and shipping costs can be trimmed. You won't have to look hard but if you do your homework, you will able to find many great deals for only a dollar each.
