Is Dylan Baker Returning to the World of Spider-Man as the Lizard?

According to UGO, Dylan Baker confirmed at a screening in New York for his new film "Trick 'r Treat" that he will be returning to the Spider-Man franchise next year as Dr. Curt Conners. Whether or not he will be the central villain is unknown, but many Spidey fans know full-well that director Sam Raimi has been flirting with the concept of turning Baker's character into the baddie The Lizard since 2004's "Spider-Man 2."

For those who don't know, in the comics the character of Dr. Curt Conners exposes himself to chemicals that end up mutating him into a lizard-like creature with super strength. The Lizard was also ranked #62 on the Top 100 Comic Book Villains of All-Time on IGN.

In 2007, Sam Raimi expressed interested in turning Dr. Conners into The Lizard if he were to return to direct "Spider-Man 4" while also revealing his ideas of bringing in other villains such as The Vulture, who steals using a harness created to help him fly and Electro, who thanks to being struck by lighting, can generate massive amounts of electricity and use them to his own advantage.

"Spider-Man 4" is scheduled to begin filming around March 2010 and sees the return of actors Tobey Maguire (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson) and J. K. Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson) with Sam Raimi directing. Other actors expected to return are Rosemary Harris (Aunt May), Michael Papajohn (The carjacker from "Spider-Man 1"), Elizabeth Banks (Betty Brant), Bruce Campbell in his fourth series cameo and Stan Lee in his usual Marvel film cameo. The film is being produced by Laura Ziskin, Avi Arad, Todd Black and Grant Curtis; executive producers include Stan Lee, Todd Hallowell and Josh Donen.

The script is being written by James Vanderbilt and rewritten by Pulitzer-winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire and again by Gary Ross. Sony has also engaged Vanderbilt to write the rough drafts for Spider-Man 5 & 6, already in somewhat of pre-production. Raimi has tossed around the idea of introducing the Sinister Six for the final movie of the Spider-Man saga, which engaged Spider-Man to face a grouping of villains who want to get rid of Spider-Man once and for all that includes; Sandman, Doctor Octopus, The Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio and Electro.

The film will more than likely be shot in New York City with some second unit filming taking place in Raimi's home state of Michigan, after having considered it for some filming of "Spider-Man 3."

"Spider-Man 4" will be released in theaters and IMAX on Thursday, May 5'th, 2011.
