Is the Economy Downturn the Best Thing That's Ever Happened to Us?

Sometimes it Takes an Extreme Occurrence to Make People Get Serious About Change

David Lindberg
How often do we put off something that we know we should do, fix, correct, work on, etc. but instead use the Scarlett O'Hara from Gone with the Wind line, "Oh well, I can't thank about that now, and tomorrow is another day"? This is what makes diets, bad habits, job hunting and success from happening. They are excuses. Everyone uses them. It's a part of human nature. Making excuses time and time again is only putting something difficult off for a little while longer. We say that we will do it, just not right this minute.

Countless jobs have been lost over the last year and getting a new job, especially if you thought you were nearing retirement and had worked for 20 or 30 years already, is not an easy task, even if you are not using excuses.

Just as the price of gasoline pushed near the 4 and 5 dollar mark, there was never a more serious kick in the behind to how seriously wrong our country has been to continue the course of relying on oil as a major source of energy. When we were pushed beyond what we thought was possible and had to make a choice to buy gasoline or pay the utility bill, we finally got it. We all knew that our country had gone through energy crises before, but as soon as the problem seemed to diminish, the public forgot all about it.

The year of 2008 and 2009 hit with such a tsunami of problems that each issue was large enough to kick us all in the butt! Just as we know that anything we put off until tomorrow always lurks in the back of our mind because we know it still has to be accomplished, we all know that there are things in life that can not be put off forever! We have all been living in a sort of dream like state when it comes to so many important things that can effect life and death outcomes.

It appears that some very serious reckoning times are upon us and events of these two years are begging for us to get serious about how decisions that we make right now will have reactions in the very near future. We may not have decades of grace periods before we see ramifications to putting things off. The fact that so many major global issues are all occurring in the same period of time is probably a good indicator that it's time to get serious and stay on course to make caring for our environment and not living beyond our means the way we live our every day lives.

Its always easier to clean something up if you pick up one item every so often and put it in it's place, than it is to keep scheduling a non specific time period to clean everything all at once. This usually keeps building the issue until it falls totally apart.

Hopefully, these current issues are still last minute warnings to us, to begin to get to work and not put off until tomorrow!
