I drive a Chevy 2500 4x4 heavy duty, the gas on that thing is outrages I spend about 70 dollars every three days. When I heard there might be cheaper gas, it caught my attention so I did some research.
The first thing I read was not good Engineer Poet has pointed out on several occasions that ethanol is not really a useful fuel. It's produced at a net energy loss - more energy goes into making the stuff than we get out of it. But it is cleaner for the air. Ethanol is made from corn and sugar why would you want to burn our food? Especially when there are starving people in other countries?
What is troubling is a statement by Tomas Endicott of SeQuential Biofuels, up until now Oregon's largest producer of bio-diesel: "If the market is there for ethanol and biodiesel, we can and will build the facilities here." Seems like a lot of big players are lining up to assure their slice of the ethanol pie. Ok now we see why the government is all over this. If they can make us think it will be cheaper and better for us then we will all jump on the band wagon. And guess who will profit not us wright, now it cost 2.20 a gallon yes a little cheaper but how long will that last? The government is just out for our money they will find a reason to raise the price. Now there are high crop prices are they taking that into consideration? I'm sure they are as a reason to raise the price. So far all the research I have done, I have yet to find a good reason to spend the money on building plants that will cost billions just to burn our food source.
Among the findings: that producing ethanol from corn requires 29 percent more fossil energy than the fuel that's produced. So in my findings I have voted against the whole ethanol thing to me it does not seem but to be another way for the rich to get richer. I don't know about you but, I'm tired of giving the government my hard earned money. Maybe if people knew the truth we can stop this before it goes too far.

Post a CommentHow is your mpg. I have heard you get 3 or 4 mpg less.
Yes, this enthusiasm over ethanol is indeed unwise, and your article gives some good information on the basis of which to oppose government-mandated increases in ethanol production.
