Is Facebook the Best Online Dating Site This Valentine's Day?

Plenty of Reasons Why Facebook May Be Perfect for Singles

Considering that Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook with the original intention of being able to "meet and socialize" with college students (especially girls), there's no doubt Facebook could be the best online dating site today. Despite the fact that we just use it mainly to keep up with our friends, colleagues, and family members, single men and women are finding interesting people to meet on Facebook. MySpace was a huge success in connecting singles together. And of course, there are websites that are set up solely for the purpose of online dating, such as eHarmony or Match.com.

One of the major drawbacks of finding someone to meet on Facebook if you're a single guy or girl is that you have to be careful about posting your information on the News Feed section. This is where everybody in your network of friends gets to see your message. If you're trying to meet someone, you have to send a private message to their personal page.

Another thing that many singles may not like about the online dating capabilities of Facebook is the fact that if you use the Search box, they will not likely be guided by categories such as male/female, age group, location, heigh/weight, hobbies, etcetera.

Some of the best dating sites out there apart from Facebook:

Yahoo! Personals
Match.com
American Singles
eHarmony
Perfect Match

There are online dating sites that specifically cater to racial or geographical preference. And of course, who needs to travel thousands of miles to meet somebody if all you wanted was a fling?

But the reason why Facebook may just be the best online dating site for many singles out there is the fact that it's free to join. Majority of dating sites on the Internet charge membership fees. Also, there's a high likelihood of meeting a scammer in some online dating sites, whereas on Facebook, it's easy to tell the real people, based on their information and network of friends.
