Is the Film a BLOCK-buster? Dave Chapelle's Block Party Is Just So-So

The Outlaw
Dave Chapelle's new film Block Party was a really weird film, if you want to call it a film Now don't get me wrong, I am a big Dave Chapelle fan and I love his show on Comedy Central. But what was this film really about? Did it have laughs that Chapelle is famous for? A little giggles here and there but it was by no means hilarious. This is what this film was about:

Dave Chapelle hosts a huge band and rap concert in Brooklyn, New York and the film gives an inside look on the band and people in the show. Dave Chapelle is the host and introduces the people and makes jokes to the crowd. The film is supposed to be a "rea" look on the making of the concert but this film in my opinion was no blockbuster that it was supposed to be.

Some people in the film you might recognize like Mos Def who is a rapper and singer in the concert. You might also recognize the Fiji band that broke up but is now together for this film. The concert in the film is seen by an entire black audience in New York and they dance and sing and the rappers and musicians play music.

The film interviews people in the band and singers with Dave Chapelle. The film also gives a human aspect to it as it shows a rapper talking with a bunch of college band students and the rapper talks about how great it is that these black students are in college. He also talks about taking the initiative to get to a library and study since the man came from the Caribbean not knowing any English and today he is a singer in America.

Coming into the film, I and other viewers thought this film would be about Dave Chapelle but it really wasn't anything like that at all. It was really about the music from this group that had a lot of members on stage singing and playing to this crowd. The music does sound good but some songs sound downright awful.

I think Chapelle was trying to bring a soul aspect to the film, if you will but even if he accomplished that goal this film was not a smash hit. At a time whhen V for Vendetta is being released, I say that you should save your money and go see V for Vendetta which was 100 times better than this Chapelle film.

Chapelle does crack some funny jokes but if you wanted to see this film star a hilarious Dave Chapelle like his show on t.v. you will be very disappointed.
