Is FlashForward Heading for Another Global Blackout?

Low Ratings and Cancellation Rumors Are Frustrating Fans of the ABC Series

Thanks to low ratings and cancellation rumors, "FlashForward" fans now are wishing they had participated in the infamous blackout that occurred on October 6, 2009. That way, everyone would know if ABC is planning to renew this innovative show or leave fans hanging.

As it stands right now, the puzzle pieces that make up the "FlashForward" mystery finally are coming together. Here are some plotlines that hopefully will be resolved before the show stops production, whenever that may be:

What is Dyson Frost's ultimate goal: Also known as Deacon Gibbons, Frost helped develop the technology that makes the "flash forwards" possible. During the 2009 Global Blackout (GBO), Frost and a handful of associates wore rings that made them immune to the GBO. Over the years, Frost has seen visions of himself dying on March 15, the same day that Julius Caesar was stabbed in the Roman Senate.

Will Demetri Noh also die on March 15: Seeing the future is scary enough, but FBI Special Agent Demetri Noh saw nothing during his blackout. Learning that he will be shot and killed on March 15, Noh has chased down leads, trying to stack the deck in his favor. Unfortunately, everything he does seems to be guaranteeing his own murder.

The Second Blackout: Mark Benford, Demetri's partner and friend, has been leading the team investigating the Global Blackout. By piecing together clues from his own vision and the visions of other "FlashForward" characters, Benford believes that a second GBO is coming. A recovering alcoholic, Benford also sees himself falling off the wagon in his vision.

Aaron Stark taking on Jericho: On the latest episode of "FlashForward," Aaron Stark was given equipment and the blessings of FBI Assistant Director Stanford Wedeck to go into Afghanistan to rescue his daughter Tracy. With no backup, Stark heads overseas because his own vision during the GBO showed him with a wounded Tracy in the desert, presumably a captive of the mysterious group called Jericho.

Dr. Olivia Benford's extra-marital affair: On "FlashForward," the future visions have ranged from the terrifying to the mundane. For Dr. Olivia Benford, however, her vision showed her romantically involved with another man on April 29, 2010. That man turns out to be Dr. Lloyd Simcoe, who inadvertently helped the blackout spread across the world. On the latest episode of "FlashForward," Olivia finally acknowledges her feelings for Lloyd.

A child shall lead them: Charlie Benford, daughter of Mark and Olivia, had what apparently was a very vivid vision during the pilot episode of "Flash Forward." She saw and heard things that made her conclude that the mysterious "D. Gibbons" in her father's vision is a very bad person. On the April 15 episode, Charlie also was the catalyst in getting her mom together with Dr. Simcoe. What else does Charlie know?

What did Tracy Stark see: Presumed dead, Tracy Stark returned home briefly before being kidnapped. Tracy's vision may hold additional information about the GBO, which is why Stanford Wedeck gave her dad the go-ahead to stage a rescue mission.

"FlashForward" is broadcast at 8 p.m. EST on Thursdays on ABC.
