Since Mayweather retired at the end of 2007, he had talks with a few MMA promoters in search of trying to fight the best MMA fighters in the world. Mayweather also has appeared in the wrestling ring in the beginning of 2008, making a couple of promos and culminating in fighting "The Big Show" at Wrestlemania 24. This was a very intriguing matchup because Floyd is only 5' 8" and weighs 147 pounds while "The Big Show" is 7' 0" and weighs about 500 pounds. Floyd won the matchup when he used brass knuckles on Show's face. It was also reported that Floyd made somewhere between $5 million-$25 million for the appearance.
One source, who is very close to Mayweather and has known him for many years has said: "He is coming back. I've been around him. He's ready to dance again very soon. He's itching to go. The way he sounded, he is willing to take on whoever they throw in his face." Even Floyd Mayweather Sr. (Floyd's dad) has said that without question, Floyd will fight again. If Mayweather does decide to return, he will have a wide array of opponents. Just a few of the big name fighters he could fight are Shane Mosley or Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather could also fight the winner of Hatton-Pacquiao which would be the bigger fight. If Floyd were to return to boxing, he could make at least $15 million against any one of the boxers mentioned. It has also been reported that Mayweather's camp has contacted HBO for the availability of the July 11 slot adding fuel to the speculations that he will come out of retirement.
If Mayweather were to return to boxing, it would be a huge relief to a sport that is "dying" in some people's eyes. His last two fights before he retired was against Hatton and De La Hoya that brought in tremendous live gates and both were sold out fights.

Post a CommentWell I just published my own thoughts on the issue... I do think he's coming back, but I think we may differ in how we feel about it.
