Is it a Good Idea for Teens to Blog?

Denise
Daily there are people of any age, from anywhere around the world that are creating their own blogs. Teens, however are the stars of the internet when it comes to blogging. there are approximately four million teens who are blogging. They took to the internet as a fish breathes in water. Unlike adults, it is easy for them to be free with their words and feelings. Adults have to spend time learning a little, and get used to using computers and software. For teens it is second nature.

Teens most likely love to blog because they have the opportunity to be anonymous. Many people can visit their blogs and admire them, or say something disagreeable. If that is the case, no one will know who they are and it will save them from being humiliated. They can even go undiscovered from parents, and so sharing what is on their mind is pretty much safe, and can be kept secret. That is why teens blogging is exploding everyday.

Blogs are also free for those who want to become authors. Teens who want to be published writers have a very little chance of it happening by submitting to magazines. These publications do not want anyone who is not a seasoned writing veteran. Blogs give these teens a chance to show their work without being turned away. They won't need anyone's approval before being published.

There are some places that do publish teen work for copies of the magazine or no pay. Teens can submit artwork, stories, poetry, photos and in some cases even music! Check the links at the end of this article for further information.

Blogging can be negative for teens in some cases. Being too private can lead to getting involved with the wrong people. They can be cyber stalked and be a victim of cyber bullying. Some tips that teens should take would be to not use personal information like their real name, the school they attend, their address and phone number and the places they like to go. This information definitely should be kept out of their blogs.

Another tip is to not give out information about others. It can turn into slander and if the person is hurt by it, the teen can be sued for libel. Other important tips are to protect any passwords you have, and photos. Before a teen posts any photos, they should ask themselves is it something their future employer or whatever important they are going to do as adults, will it affect them later? Photos are forever. Once they are online, they stay online for life! A part from those things, blogging should and can be a very rewarding experience.

Teens know that blogging is the ultimate gateway to social networking. They can get feedback from their peers, avoid rejection from publishers, and be creative and hold onto their privacy at the same time. Being young is a free and fearless time. They can meet many people from all over the world, and in doing so learn many new and amazing things. It can uplift their self-esteem and always keep them current with what's happening.
