Is Government Run Healthcare the Answer to Healthcare Reform?

Should the Government Step into Private Industry?

jessefutch
A Socialist System Within A Democratic Country? The Obama administration is pushing hard for a bill that will allow the government to step into the private healthcare industry. Everyone who isn't comatose already knows about the bill. The news is filled with stories of volleys back and forth between lawmakers who oppose the bill and those the support it. In July the Obama administration even made an attempt to push Congress to pass the bill within a three week timeframe. Reckless to say the least, a bill that will affect every single American being pushed through in under a month is looming over us all. The real question is, which side of this debate are you on?

Healthcare For All

The pro Government Healthcare crowd seems to lean heavily on the idea that every American deserves health coverage, and the only way that is possible is through a Socialized system. They would see the national debt increase dramatically and force everyone with a job in America to pay higher taxes. The Obama administration has admitted already that it will probably cost $1.5 trillion dollars over the course of a decade to provide such health coverage to America. With such a high price on a national healthcare plan, what other programs and systems will suffer because of lack or loss of funding?

The End Of Free Enterprise

One of the most disturbing aspects of the Government Healthcare system, according to news stories, internet blogs and newspaper responses is the fact that our government will be applying a grip on a private industry. The debate is very heated over whether privately held health insurance companies will be able to weather having to compete with Socialized healthcare. If employers have a choice between paying about $5,000 per year per employee to provide health insurance, or to opt out, pay nothing and allow their employees to choose the socialized healthcare system, one hardly need guess what they will choose. When this happens, will private insurance companies be able to remain profitable with no one to sell their services to?

Taxes And The American Economy

No matter which side of the debate you're on, no one can argue where the money for a government run healthcare system will come from. Plain and simple, the taxpayer will be forced to foot the bill. The question of what percentage taxes will increase is still up in the air, and no one really knows. Not knowing makes the whole thing seem like gambling. I don't know what numbers will win the lottery, but I buy a ticket anyway... See the resemblance?

When taxes increase, so will the unemployment rate. When the number of unemployed increases, the value of our economy will decrease. Add some fresh, worthless printed money made just to pay for a Government Healthcare system to all of Americas other problems, and we've got a recipe for a national disaster.

What Side Of The Debate Are You On?

Ok I admit, healthcare for all sounds like one of the best things anyone ever thought of. Millions of Americans do not have health insurance because they cannot afford it, and because their employers do not offer it. Having an opportunity to see a doctor when you need to should be a basic human right. Getting the care you need when you need it is very important to every American. So yes, healthcare needs to be reformed. Allow the government of a Democratic nation to push over private companies and control their industry? Does that sound like reform, or does it sound like something un-Democratic? The debate and the decision is in all Americans' hands. Which side are you on?
