Is Your Hair Blonde or Bland?

Monica Bullock
Going blonde is a dramatic step-one that is perfect for a makeover. However over time you may find your blonde tresses look dull even boring. Has your once hot hair gone from blonde to bland? If so, you can refresh your look with these hair ideas perfect for a seasonal change. Some of these suggestions require a stylist's help others you can do yourself.

Check Your Shade

Sometimes your blonde hair looks wrong because you used the wrong color. Not all hair colors are the same and your skin tones have a lot to do with which color is right for you. Here's a brief run down on blonde hair colors.

• Ash: Ash colors are suitable for people who have a slightly red complexion.

• Golden: Go gold if your skin is fair with gold undertones.

• Natural: Select natural colors if your natural hair is brunette or you have dark eyes.

Highlights

A good way to brighten up boring hair color is to add highlights. Buy a highlighting kit with color that is a few shades lighter than your hair color. Pull the strands through a cap to get the highlights you want. Circle the face and mix highlights throughout your hair. If you are not confident trying this on your own, hire a professional.

Lowlights

This is my favorite method for jazzing up my hair when it gets a little dated. For this you will need a stylist. Ask for foiled lowlights in the lower 1/3 of your hair and several chunks of color around the scalp. For fun, pick a deep auburn or mahogany brown for your lowlight colors.

Layer It

Sometimes your hair just needs a little weight lifting. Make heavy looking blonde hair look fresh and stylish by having it layered. Short, medium and long layers allow you to style the hair easier. It is also youthful looking.

Go Edgy

A boring blonde hair do will make you look boring and bland. An edgy haircut will transform you in just a few minutes. Get a trendy cut like a stylish stacked bob that is angled in the front. Do your homework and spend some time looking for the perfect haircut before you go to the salon. Also, check with your stylist to be sure she can pull of the look.
