Is Haiti in God's Mind?

A Prayer for Haiti

Julie Sadie
Heavenly Father, the God who controls the universe, I have seen the devastation and suffering of Your people in Haiti. And it crushed my heart just merely looking at the faces of those whose loved ones died. A crying widow, a fatherless son, a homeless man, a lifeless body. I know these people are all precious to you. And I can't help but wonder, why O God? Is this nation in your mind?

Are you not the God who holds the foundation of the earth? (Genesis 1:1) Are you not the God who made every living creatures? (Genesis 1:20) Are you not the God who breathed life to our every soul? (Genesis 2:7) So many questions keep flooding in my mind. But like Job, when You asked him "Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation?" (Job 38:1), I will say, "I know that You can do all things; no plan of Yours can be thwarted." (Job 42:2) Just like Job, I spoke of things I did not understand.

For You said, "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isaiah 55:9)

And so I pray for strength and comfort to the families who have lost their loved ones. I pray for healing to those who were injured physically and hurting emotionally. Heal Haiti's people and land, oh God. Thank you dear God for the so many individuals, institutions and nations who have come together to volunteer in the rescue and medical missions, donated in cash and in kind, and exerted efforts in any possible means just to be of help.

And dear God, please touch the hearts of the people reading this. That they too, would help, even in the least possible way they can think of. Mine is this - prayer. This I lift up, in the precious and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

A beautifully composed and heartfelt prayer. You show great compassion and understanding. Perhaps some part of your prayer will touch the critics.

Green Lion you should be Questioning YOUR FAITH, and I do mean faith, all knowledge is based on faith, even scientific knowledge. In fact science arose in the Western World because it was permeated with Christian Theology. Even now, science doesn't make sense outside of faith God. Think about it!

rest of my comment was not published - Maybe there are parallel universes. Who can know what we cannot know? There are many, many mysterious still.

Julie - your words are powerful. This is an excellent example of talking to God as a friend would ask questions of great weight. Counselor - We can know the mind of God else the writer of Philippians would not have written - "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." Philippians 2:5 Do you believe that? Green Lion didn't grasp or acknowledge the open public dialogue is a faith question. the author commented of it in her reply. My question is, Why were we spared. And, why are humans allowing such horror potential to keep our heart so hardened. Look around you. Our world is as Green Lion described. A miracle for me to believe in it as truly a miracle of God would be to see the earth open up and give up its dead. There aren't many true miracles. But, if you believe in Christ, you can see life in the supernatural every day. This seems to many like miracles when it is actually Christ's working in and through the Kingdom of God. We know so little. Maybe there are parallel u

This is a creative and heartfelt way to support the content drive while expressing sentiment shared by many others, I'm sure.

Lovely prayer, Julie. I just made a donation to the Red Cross today. It's very easy to do, only takes a minute! :)

@green lion: thank you for taking time reading and commenting on my article. But I'm sorry, I don't see the need for me to question my faith. Please feel free to read my other articles, maybe by doing so you may understand where I'm coming from. I hope to get to know you and listen to your "faith" as well. I pray that "my God" will touch your heart. Peace! :-)
