I was sleeping on my couch, happily in the middle of a great dream. All of a sudden, I hear a desperate, "MEOW!" from my stepfather's cat. My mom was divorced for a long time and my stepfather is a terrific person. I can honestly say that my biggest adjustment to them being married has been to his cat, Harriet. I admit that I'm a dog person and just don't care for cats.
Harriet thinks she rules the roost. She climbs up on the couch like she owns it. She smells awful, and cries for her food each morning and evening. Yesterday, she started hissing at my friend's dog in the middle of Easter dinner! We had to separate them like children and put Harriet in the basement. She cried all the way through dinner, until we brought her up from the basement after dinner. Here's my most important question. Do cats dream? When she cries at night, is Harriet dreaming? How can I adjust to Harriet? Goodness knows I need a good night's sleep!
