Gut Instinct
If you've got a feeling the guy you just met is not being totally genuine, something will trigger your gut instinct. It could be something he said. It could be his actions, facial expressions, or the way he handles the conversation. So, is he a player? If your gut feeling indicates he is, then he may be.
Player's Mistake
More along the lines of using your gut instinct, the player makes the mistake of not showing any genuine interest about the things you like and what's important to you. He isn't so much concerned with your feelings as he is about satisfying his needs. Being a little intuitive, you can fairly pick this guy off early.
It's 12 A.M.
The clock strikes twelve, and there's his text message wondering where he can meet you. The player will seemingly only contact you after midnight, which is after he struck out at the bar scene.
Is He a Player? The Flirt
His friends label him a dog. His boss calls him a dog. He takes pride in the fact that his own Labrador retriever even knows him as a dog. The player will scope out other women when he enters a public place. He may flash a smile or make eye contact. Whatever he does, his attention isn't always on you. If his attention routinely seems to be diverted, it could be a sign he's a player.
Is He a Player? The Dater
Our evolution teaches us men are hunters, women are gatherers. The player finds solace in the hunt. It's in his nature. If he gives you reasons why he will not commit to just you, it's a potential red flag he could be a player. But some day, the player will decide his playing days are over, but until then you're next in line in his circle of life.
The Phone
Does he receive phone calls or text messages from other women when he's with you and tries to play them off? Those women could be his plan B and plan C in case you don't work out. The player is good at keeping the assembly line moving, and you could be just one step of the process.
Reverse Psychology
The advanced player uses a little reverse psychology. This is the guy that's tough to pick off early because he has to stay one step ahead of you. He will do everything he can to make it look like he wants to get to know you, meanwhile he's good at shaking his head yes but isn't listening to one word. A good example of this is Vince Vaughn's character in Swingers. While initially tough to read, the player doesn't stand the test of time. If he feels he's not getting anywhere with you from a physical intimacy standpoint, he may just bolt and you'll never hear from him again. If that's the case, you've rooted out the player. Pat yourself on the back, declare victory, and move on.
