Is Health Care Reform Dividing America?

Lately there has been lots of discussion about health care reform. There is constant bickering between both Republicans and Democrats. Many people really don't understand what the proposed health care reform bill entails. I believe that the problems on this issue can be can best be described by what Adam Smith said many years ago that, "there are two types of people in this world, the haves and the have nots." The issues surrounding health care in America is dividing the country.

There is a big misconception about health care reform. People have the tendency to sometimes speak negatively about things that they might not quite understand. There are many people that think that it is just legislation that will only benefit indigent health care patients. Health care should be available to everyone regardless of their financial status. The people who are valiantly pushing for health care reform should provide the American people with some literature explaining the details of the proposed legislation. For many years it seems like the only people that have benefited from the current health care are big insurance companies. As a result of the greed of some insurance companies there are people suffering because they either cannot afford to pay for their medication or they have so called pre-conditioned illnesses that prevent them from getting proper medical attention. Without some type of health care reform people will be forced to make spur of the moment decisions that may threaten family members that may be suffering from terminal illnesses. It would be ludicrous for anybody to even consider a personal fable that health care reform will have no affect on them. At one point in time everyone has and will be affected by health care in some way.

It seems to be a daily routine to turn on the world news seeing people on the news protesting health care reform. There are some who are for it while there are others who oppose it. All of the constant bickering has caused a governmental stalemate on the issue of health care. When it comes to health care compared to other countries the United States ranks very low. We should not make the issue of health care reform a partisan issue. Regardless of the pros and cons of health care reform it is a major problem that cannot be ignored.
