Is a Holiday Romance a Good Idea?

Most people who don't already have a special someone, are especially aware of this around the holiday season. We are bombarded with constant reminders through commercials, songs, movies, and more, that the holidays are not just about family, but having a special someone to share the holidays with. Lets' look at some of the pros and cons about finding romance during the holiday season.

Let's start with, why it may not be a good idea to start a romance during the holidays. That way, later on we can end on a good note. Many people who are alone, meaning without a romantic interest, find the holiday season that much more lonely. They seem to skate by during the rest of the year, hoping someday they will find a romance that they only write about in storybooks. Then the holiday season starts to approach, and things change. Every commercial, movie, or song seems to be like a knife to the heart. Many people who don't have a love interest, start to feel depressed, and more alone and lonely than ever. Unfortunately, this leads to desperation. What does desperation lead to? Desperation can lead to bad choices regarding a romantic partner. When someone is depressed and lonely, they will do almost anything to rid themselves of that horrible void they are feeling. People they might not have been interested in before, may start to look better during the holidays, when in reality they are not. We are talking about being delusional here, in order to satisfy a need. It's that terrible need of not being alone, and not feeling lonely.

So, in the end some people may choose a partner that they know deep in the recess's of their mind is totally wrong, and they could end up getting really hurt. but at least they will have a warm body to spend the holidays with. They may choose individuals that are downright dangerous, suffering from serious addictions, married individuals, or people they don't even really like, all in the search for someone to relieve the loneliness, and the fear of being alone. When the choices we make in regards to romance and love during the holidays are made out of desperation, depression, or fear, one must be aware that these choices will probably end in disaster, and actually end up making us feel even worse.

Can a holiday romance be positive choice? Yes, most definitely. I know many people who have met during the holiday season, and have gone on to have loving and lasting relationships. So, what's so different about these people? These people who turn a holiday romance into a long term loving relationship, are not lonely, and are not afraid of being alone. They are in the habit of making healthy choices in their life on a daily basis. Most of all they are choosing someone to enhance their already happy and fulfilled life. So, in this respect, a holiday romance can lead to something very special and fulfilling, or just be something one chooses to have to add to their holiday pleasure. The key is knowing what to expect, being able to handle where the romance may or may not go, and most of all choosing the right people, that are also not choosing you because they are desperate or lonely. When two people are making healthy choices about romance and love during the holidays, then there is a much better chance of the couple moving on to something special and lasting, if that's' what both people want. A holiday romance for the right two individuals can be very special indeed.

So, it's easy to see what a bad idea a holiday romance can be for those who choose the wrong people, for all the wrong reasons. However, it can equally be as wonderful for the those individuals who make healthy choices about the people they choose, and for all the right reasons.
