Things around the house that can poison your pet

Drano (Liquid Plumber, etc)

If your pet loves to get into things and chew stuff up, make sure Drano and other cleaners are in a place where your pet can not get to them. It's also important to make sure the caps are tightly closed.

Keeping Drano and cleaners in a cupboard beneath the sink may not be enough to protect your pet. Instead, keep these things on a shelf that isn't within your pets reach. It's best to make sure they're in an area that can be closed off.

Other products such as CLR and Lime Away are also very dangerous to pets.

Slug and Snail Bait

Slug and snail bait is extremely dangerous to pets. The bait smells appetizing and pets will devour it. If your pet eats slug and snail bait it can kill them within a short amount of time. Do not use slug and snail bait if you have pets.

If your pet consumes slug and snail bait some of the symptoms include but are not limited to twitching, nervousness, your pet may become hyper, drooling, panting, diarrhea, vomiting, and seizures. If you notice any of these symptoms take your pet to a vet immediately.

Rat and mouse poison

Rat and mouse poison is also extremely dangerous to dogs. It usually has an appetizing smell to attract the rats and mice. Unfortunately it's also attractive to pets. Even if you do not have the rat and mouse poison set up, simply having it in or around the house can be dangerous to pets.

Pets, especially dogs, have a heightened sense of smell and will find it. So make sure it is not in an area where your pet can get to it. When setting up the traps, do not put them in places where your pets are allowed to roam.

Anti freeze

Anti freeze is very deadly and dangerous to pets. It smells sweet, so pets love to drink it. If brought to a veterinarian quickly after consuming anti freeze a pet can be saved. However, if anti freeze poisoning is not dealt with swiftly it will damage the pet's kidneys and the pet will die.

Make sure anti freeze is put up on a shelf and the cap is closed tightly so that pets cannot get to it. And clean up any spills or leaks.

If a pet has anti freeze poisoning it may appear drunk, be depressed and thirsty, and the pet may become extremely weak and have diarrhea and vomiting.

All of these things are dangerous to pets. If you have these things around your house, you should take action immediately to remove them or place them safely in an area where your pets do not have access too.
