Is Your Home Energy Efficient? Connecticut Residents Get Free Evaluation

Connecticut Light and Power are providing a free service to their customers, that is funded by the state. Approved applicants will be visited at their home where an energy audit will be carried out by a special team. The team will use special equipment to tell you where the most energy is escaping your house. For example they will test for leaks under doors, windows, fireplaces and attics. The team will either seal up the leak or inform you how to do it.
Some of the features of the energy service include duct sealing, advanced weatherization, water consumption controls and the installation of long life low energy consumption light bulbs. Homeowners will also be given a variety of rebates for discounts on energy efficient appliances including refrigerators, freezers and insulation.
You will be provided with some tips on how to make your home more energy efficient such as unplugging appliances that are using energy unnecessarily.
When speaking to one Connecticut home owner about their experience of the energy audit they said that the whole process took a few hours and the team placed insulation on many pipes, changed every light bulb to a long life energy efficient one, filled gaps between wall and floor boards with caulking, installed a water saving device on the faucet, provided rebates and offered helpful energy saving advice.
To be eligible for the free energy audit homeowners must be users of natural gas and electric and be Connecticut residents. There may be a waiting list meaning it could take some time to receive a response to your application. When your application is approved Connecticut Light & Power will telephone you to give you a time when they will come to your house.
To apply it will be necessary to visit the Connecticut Light & Power website to download an application form. Once the form is printed off, fill it in and post it to the address provides on the webpage. Home Energy Solutions application. If there is a short waiting list and you qualify, you should receive a call within a few days to arrange a visit to your home. The entire evaluation and improvement made to your home is completely free.
