Is a House Always a Home?

Christina Armani
A house isn't always a home. No matter where you live, your residence is just a foundation. Whether you live in an apartment, condo, a townhouse, or a regular sized house, it's just a place with four walls and a roof. A home is a place where you feel at ease every day. A home is a place you look forward to coming to after a long day of work. A hope is a place where you feel happy, safe, and secure. Based on the phrase "homesick," a home is a place where you're thoughts are, and it's a place that you'll miss if you're away from it for too long.

A house may hold you and your things, but it may not be a place where you're really happy and comfortable. A home is about more than a foundation, it's about the people and places around it. When people feel homesick, they feel homesick for more than just a residence, they miss the area and the people around the residence. Your home is your safe haven where you can feel relaxed, at ease and even secure. Your home is a place where you have left your personal touch, and maybe a little part of your soul. Your home is a place that you feel connected to, even if does have some cracks in the foundation or a fireplace that doesn't even work. A home may not always be perfect on the outside, but it's always perfect on the inside.

When I was little I lived all over Baltimore, Maryland. While our address changed from time to time, where I lived was always home to me. It was home to me because I had family, love, warmth, happy times, and wonderful memories. Today I still live in Baltimore and am still proud to call Baltimore my home. Baltimore is my home because it has a special place in my heart and my memories. Baltimore is my home because I've done my best to make it my home. Baltimore is my home because I've made the best of living in Baltimore since I was a little girl. Although I didn't choose to live in Baltimore, Baltimore choose me.

A house may be where all your belongings are, but home is where your heart is. A home is where you belong and where you're meant to be. A home is where you can be yourself, and not have to worry about making people love you because they already do. A home is a home because you learn about yourself there, and gain your true identity. A home is a place where people love you for who you really are. The difference is that a house is just a place where you take up space, but a home is your own world in this world.
