Mothers all over Northern Ireland have reported strange occurrences concerning their infant children. This reporter went to Ireland for interviews to get first hand information. The following is responses from several of the mothers.
REPORTER: When did you first suspect that a fairy changeling had entered your home?
MOTHER #1: Tuesday of a week ago
REPORTER: What was the first sign that something was out of the ordinary?
MOTHER #2: In the cradle, I find a scrawny, ill-tempered thing in my boy's place
NOTE: Ugliness and ill temper are generic traits of fairy changelings.
REPORTER: What was your first thought?
MOTHER #3: I was repulsed by his restless, coal-burnt eyes, puckered features and textured skin.
NOTE: That is why fairies eject changelings from their lands.
REPORTER: How are they different from human infants?
MOTHER #1: Before they live a year in our world, they grow a full mouth of teeth; their hands are like claws, their legs no thicker than chicken bones.
MOTHER #2: The changeling's whines, yowls, screeches and cries are so irritating to delicate human ears.
MOTHER #3: No matter how much food they devour, they still want more, yet remain runty as ever.
NOTE: After a farmer labors to feed the fairy changeling's appetite, little remains for the rest of the family.
REPORTER:Do you know for sure that this is not your child?
MOTHER #2: The dwarfed form and irritable manner convince some that the creature is actually a child.
Mother #3: But a smart mother knows that a fairy changeling has entered her home.
After intensive studies, research has concluded that there are two time-tested methods recommended to discover whether the child is fairy. 1.Placing a set of bagpipes by the cradle is a sure test. No changeling can resist them. Soon fairy music spills out of the house and into the village. 2.Boiling egg shells is another way of detecting. A mother boils egg shells in front of the suspected child. In an old man's voice, the changeling will cackle with laughter.
if you dispose of a changeling masking as a mortal, the original child always returns unscathed.
