One of the biggest questions on most Losties minds this season is: Who are the Oceanic 6? Throughout the first 6 episodes of season 4, we've discovered that Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid are definitely 4 of the oceanic 6. We've also discovered that Aaron (Claire's son) is in the care of Kate off the island and that she is telling the world that he is her son, but many are still skeptical that he is officially an Oceanic 6. In episode 7, we find out that Sun is also one of the Oceanic 6, but does this mean that Jin gets off the island with her?
Throughout the episode we were given flashes of both Jin and Sun, but they were never together during these flashes. While Sun was going into labor and giving birth in a hospital, Jin was on the hunt for a panda and trying to make it to the maternity ward as well. Logically, it was believed that he knew Sun was in labor and that he was trying to buy a gift for the baby and make it to the hospital before she gave birth. However, it was a little bit hard to believe that Jin would go back to work for Sun's father upon leaving the island or that they would return to Korea (they had discussed possibly living in the States if rescued).
Back on the island, Jin and Sun had a different set of problems on their hands. Sun was convinced that Juliet was lying about the fact that she'd die if she stayed on the island, and because she didn't trust that Daniel Faraday and company were there to rescue them, she wanted to hike to Locke's camp on the other side of the island where she thought she and Jin and the baby would be safe. Upon discovering that Sun was planning on leaving, Juliet tried again to convince her that she was in serious danger and that in a matter of weeks her health would begin to deteriorate. Sun didn't believe her. As Sun and Jin started to make way, Juliet revealed to Jin that Sun had had an affair before coming to the island. This upset Jin and he no longer wanted to make the trip with Sun, therefore they remained on the beach.
While this was a very effective move on Juliet's part, it set up the pretense that Jin and Sun didn't leave the island together and started to convince the audience that in the flashes, Jin and Sun weren't exactly in the same time period. This was confirmed when Jin had to re-enter a toy store looking for a stuffed panda (he had lost the first one) and the shopkeeper stated that they were out of panda's and that he should buy a dragon because it was the year of the dragon. The last year of the dragon was in 2000 so we knew that Jin was in the past while Sun was in the future.
A silent war raged between Jin and Sun on the island until Bernard asked to join Jin to go fishing. While on the fishing boat, Bernard confessed to Jin about Rose's condition (she had cancer before coming to the island) and how he believed that Karma had a lot to do with what got them to the island so that she could be cured. While Jin didn't say anything, you could see the wheels turning in his head. He later approached Sun apologizing for the way he used to be and told her he understood why she did what she did. While fans celebrated their reunion, it was bittersweet because the last flash forward of the show took us back to Sun and the baby.
A knock on the door revealed Hurley in a suit asking if any of the others were coming. Sun replied no and this seemed to make Hurley happy. The flash forward then cut to a cemetery. Sun knelt before a tombstone and started speaking in Korean. She was speaking to Jin, showing him their beautiful baby girl whom they named Ji Yeon (at Jin's request). It was a heartbreaking moment because it made us realize that Jin has died and will never get to see his baby girl.
Seeing the tombstone of Jin in Sun's flash forward is the only indication that he might have gotten of the island as well, however it is possible that they simply set up a memorial stone for him and he's not actually in the grave. So the big question here is: Is Jin a member of the Oceanic 6? Because we never actually saw him (alive) in a flash forward, it is very hard to say. But then the next question to ask is: if it's not Jin, then who is it? I suppose only time will tell. All I have to say is...I love this show!!

Post a CommentI don't think he is (but I thought so back in January). But I also think he is alive.
This sounds interesting. I may have to tune in. Thanks!
Interesting...
PS. I am still upset that they killed Charlie.
I think Sun is one of the Oceanic 6. It looks like Gin dies. Desmond gets off the Island but since he was not on the plane technically he would not be one of the Oceanic 6. It will be interesting, yet I am sure very confusing to see what happens.
