First of all, when it comes to the dance, there is room for but one prima ballerina, or in this particular case there is only room for one prima donna. Although Kate seems sincere in her attempt to understand and learn the routine, it seems that she is unaware that there is no room for questioning the teaching methods of a master. Quite the contrary, it is the student's job to pay attention and follow directions. Storming off and suggesting that one "can not do this today" is unprofessional at best. This is behavior that is often displayed by a prima ballerina. It is also one which is never tolerated.
Although Kate and Tony Dovolani may have a wonderful relationship off stage, what they are doing on stage does not work. Dovolani is a master of his craft, and his work is a testament to that. His movement is fluid, his stage presence is confident and engaging, and he is entertaining. This is the purpose of performance dance.
The awkward mis-steps and completely missed steps were actually embarrassing to watch. Sadly, this routine had much similarity to a child's dance recital that can be seen in just about any high school over the next few months.
For the most part the judges were kind with their assessments of what they viewed. Considering that Kate is not a professional, and not an entertainer, this seems to be the appropriate action.
It must be said that Kate looked beautiful, and continued to have a positive attitude throughout the performance. For that she deserves credit. It can not be easy to realize that your performance is a disaster and still keep your head held high, all the while smiling. In the future perhaps Kate should continue dancing with the stars in her back yard.

Post a CommentI haven't watched the show this year. Good article, though.
From everything I've seen about Jon he is a lazy, spotlight grabbing man and makes the dumbest decisions I've ever seen any man make. Having TLC cancel the show when he knew that was where they were getting their money to live was incredibly stupid on his part! All the women he's been with since Kate all say that he's a lazy bum. Kate is trying her best on DWTS. She's beautiful and who knows the dance moves might click one day. She is so terrified being in front of a live audience dancing knowing that people are looking for her to make mistakes then pounce on her. At least she tries. With 8 mouths to feed she has to go where the offers are even being away from her children when she'd rather be at home with them. She is a great Mom. Hopefully she'll lose the stark look of fear on her face the next time she performs and learns to relax and enjoy the dancing.
Kate is trying to earn a living for her 8 children. Her ex sure isn't helping. Kate, as a nurse, had to hide her emotions so she could perform her job. It's hard to go from that to having your every move talked about and questioned. She had to be the "mommy" to Jon. I like Kate and think she is a strong, beautiful woman. I watched the show DWTS and she was just trying to get the partner to explain the moves so she could understand them and he thought she was questioning his techniques. Some people have to be shown more than once what to do. She did the right thing in asking him to show her so she could understand what to do.
My comment isn't about Kate, but about your article, Irene. Very well written and informative... look at all the commentary it's sparked! Well done!
Wow this woman is unbelievable. I dont blame her ex for doing what he did. Everyone makes mistakes and the only thing you can do is learn from them. I am sure he is doing that. He knows how precious his children are. Kate only wants to be on Television somewhere. She is an attention whore. For someone blaming the husband for all he does, where are the children now. John did make a comment one time in a round about way that America will know the true Kate. He is right. I am sorry but you go John. Take care of those babies and learn as you go. No one is perfect. Especially KATE. She loves herself to much. Her partner quit on her for a while on DWTS. I do not believe he will give it his all just to be eliminated. I dont blame him. Jill so funny with the FREE Tony. I AM SICK OF HEARING ABOUT THIS PERSON THAT CALLS HERSELF A LADY..HAHAHA!! What a joke.
Jill-I couldn't have said it better myself!!! You are 100% right--it's just a rotten shame that ABC's best and most entertaining reality show is spoiled by one "rotten apple" (Kate--in my opinion) You have seen in season's pasts how the DWTS contestants are there for one another and how quick they are to fill in and help out their fellow contestants when one is in trouble or needs covered. We watch these shows to get away from stress in our lives; not become more stressed by uncalled for drama. Great comment and thanks for sharing.
Wow! People really need to grow up!!!!
It is truly sad how a TV show can go from be an entertaining, friendly, loving competition to one full of drama, hatred and dispair all because of one contestant. I used to be able to watch DWTS with a loving heart and peaceful mind. However, ABC and one contestant has changed all of that. That contestant should be off this show so that DWTS could go back to the the friendly loving competition show that was entertaining for the whole family to watch! I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT ABC IS DOING!!! I feel that ABC are now contributing to all the hate in the world!!!
