Is Kroger Fuel Rewards Worthless?

Benjaminna
I love saving money, using coupons, rebates and store promotions. There is nothing that makes me more frustrated than not being able to take advantage of an advertised store promotion like the Kroger Fuel Rewards.

I am, of course talking about the Kroger Fuel Rewards. I shop at Kroger nearly every week, meaning, at least 5 times a week I am harassed by the Kroger Fuel Rewards Promotion. I see it a couple times when I am looking over my ads, I see it online when I go to ad coupons to my card, I see it advertised in the store when I shop and I see it again on my receipt.

In case you are not familiar with the Kroger Fuel Rewards Promotion, allow me to explain. Simply put, each month you can earn points for every dollar you spend at Kroger. $1 = 1 point. This is all kept track of at the bottom of your receipt, along with when your previous months fuel rewards expire. You can then go can redeem your Fuel Rewards in at any Kroger gas station and get .10 cents off each gallon of gas.

Sounds wonderful right? I mean, who wouldn't want to get a few cents off each gallon of gas they purchase, right?

Why does this frustrate me so much?

Because, from where I live, the closest Kroger gas station is over 14 miles away in another town. Now, I know that doesn't seem that far, but when we are talking stop lights, stop signs, though town 25 - 35 mph - it's going to take at least a half hour to get there. And that's only one way. Were talking an hour's driving time and 28 miles just to save .10 cents a gallon. Somehow, I really don't think that is practical. And that would be the only thing I would be going there for, is the gas, because the Kroger I normally shop at (that does not have a gas station) is less than a mile, right down the road where I live.

I wonder how many other people have this same problem, because the fact is; there is only a hand full of Kroger gas stations in all of Ohio, yet they advertise these fuel rewards everywhere.

All I ask is for Kroger to either stop promoting their Fuel Rewards where there is no fuel, because it's rather pointless. Either that build more gas stations or at least offer Kroger shoppers without gas stations some other form of reward.

So they take away double coupons which you would have used to buy groceries every week on hundreds of dollars worth of groceries. In return they give you 7 pennies per gallon off of the one product that we are all trying to buy the least of.

So would you rather save double coupons on whatever you eat, or 7 pennies on what you try to buy the least.

Here in Middle Tenn the number of stations isnt the problem.Shell stations honor the card. ..but they are 15 cents higher on price so you pay more to use the card. That's why I am taking my business to Walmart Way to go Kroger!!

I have a gas station around the corner and this is still useless. Last Friday I went to Kroger and my receipt showed 113 fuel points. I took the very same Kroger card to the participating gas station and it indicated that I did not have enough points. I used the card 2 days later and my receipt showed 63 points - WHAT HAPPENED TO MY POINTS? The whole program is BS

Truley a waste of time to save a couple of cents off my gas. I only use the card to get a better price on certain in-store items.

I agree that is it silly to advertise where it can't be used. But I also think its silly NOT to advertise this at every store. Just because you won't been by the Kroger that's 28 miles down the road doesn't mean others won't. Its a nationwide promotion.

I agree! I use to be able to take advantage of Kroger's offer when I worked near one of their stores that had an associated gas station. Now I'd have to drive about the same distance as you for the discount. It would cost ore than it's worth. Plus, compared to discount gas stations, the savings if only about 5-cents less. Even that would be good if I didn't have to use up the savings getting to the station.

Giant Eagle started a program like this a couple of years ago. The lack of gas stations was a problem then, but they have since added gas stations to almost all of their stores. The downside, you pay for those fuel rewards on the front end. Everything is more expensive there. We don't have Kroger's around here so I don't know about their prices.
