Is Miley Cyrus Trying to Maintain Her Disney Persona?

It is not as if Miley Cyrus is Britney Spears - Miley's show "Hannah Montana" is intended for young girls - but why has she decided to go down the route of dressing so provocatively when she is only 17 years old? Being 17 is not quite an adult, even though she wears clothes that might look better on a 21 year old stripper. Miley does have legions of young fans who look up to her as someone to be emulated, but lately she has not lived up to her squeaky clean Disney image. Quite the contrary. At the June 20 MuchMusic Awards she showed up wearing a rather sexy black monokini. OMG!Yahoo! reports the story of how Miley made a rather stunning entrance onto the stage, dressed not to kill, but dressed to pole dance, something she has done before at the Teen Choice Awards last year. To top that off, her newest record has just been released, and guess what it is titled? "Can't Be Tamed." That is not exactly the kind of record title one might want their young daughter to listen to. So why has Miley jumped on the bandwagon to help push young girls into early adulthood?

It may be that Miley is simply "following the crowd" in not wanting to be viewed as a Miss Goody-Two-Shoes in the industry. The other alternative is for young girls to have a different type of idol, namely, one of the male gender who does not sing about sex or objectifying girls. To do that, though, one might have to look into the recent past to find such an idol. Maybe something along the lines of Bobby Sherman or Bobby Darin. At least with a guy they won't be inclined into wanting to dressing like a little hooker, or imitating stage moves that should be confined to the bedroom by adults with the doors closed. Britney's sister Jamie Lynn comes to mind with her 16 year old pregnancy, not exactly something anyone would want to emulate. Like so many other girls of her age, Jamie Lynn looks more - and of course, dresses like - a 21 year old woman. Maybe sexual maturity comes earlier to girls in that part of the nation; who knows. Miley, Britney, and Jamie Lynn are all Southern girls but that of course is not to say that all girls down south dress and act provocatively.

Miley can of course just as easily dispose of her present image and revert back to a Disney one, with stylish blue jeans and pullovers like Lacoste or Ralph Lauren, and throw out those Victoria's Secret style garments. Even when it comes time for social appearances, a lovely Oscar de la Renta gown would be better suited for her. Hopefully Miley Cyrus will make the right decision and not encourage young girls to become sexualized at a much too young age.
