I'm the first to agree that shows like American Idol can open positive doors for people with no other way to have their talent recognized, but isn't it still a valuable quality to know when the lights should go off, when it's time to maintain some sense of privacy and modesty as just a regular person?
Apparently, Johnny Depp seems to think that modesty is a valuable ingredient in his successful movie career. This attitude was shown on Dec. 13, 2009 when he was presented with a career achievement award at the Bahamas International Film Festival.
Anyone who is familiar with Johnny Depp's work can recognize the amazing versatility of this actor. His movies range from the innocent Edward Scissorhands (1990) to the menacing Sweeny Todd: The DemonBarber of Fleet Street (2007).
Even with all this success-numerous awards and nominations-Johnny Depp's modesty was shown Sunday night with the remark, "I'm still amazed I get jobs after all this time." Isn't it interesting how likeable a celebrity who is modest can be, even as both celebrities and fans still continue to indulge an addiction for sensationalism?
Is Modesty a Valuable Ingredient in Johnny Depp's Success? Is Modesty a Personal Choice?
When we consider whether modesty is a valuable ingredient in Johnny Depp's success, it is important to realize that his modesty regarding the success of his movie career may easily stem from some humble beginnings. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky, a location that seems unlikely to have the same glittering superficiality as Hollywood.
It seems equally clear, however, that those celebrities who don't value modesty as a valuable ingredient in their success are deliberately trying to shake off the influences of their humble beginnings. They want to live according to the fast pace of the present.
If Johnny Depp has the attitude that he is just a person doing a job, then perhaps his success can be attributed to the idea that he is not allowing himself to be distracted by awards and all the other outward appearances of a celebrity culture.
Maybe the modesty which has been such a valuable ingredient in Johnny Depp's success is present in his attitude just because he wants it to be. Johnny Depp is a good example of how actors and other famous people can think for themselves instead of being deafened by the sound of applause.

Post a CommentModesty couldn't hurt.
I just luv Johnny Depp.
I can't wait to see him as the Mad Hatter :)
Modesty is a great quality...I love the roles he picks to play, and enjoy him every time.
Thanks Dan!
Not a big fan of Depp's but know my daughter when through a time when she was head over heals in love with him - great article :)
Good insight. He really seems to enjoy acting, too. Though I am a fan of many actors, I do get tired of the egomania that often surrounds the trade.
I don't know what it is but he definately has something! (=
A very good review, I think he is gorgeous.
Thanks for the article! I am a big Depp fan not only for these reasons but that he is one of the most talented and versatile actors out there. (Not to mention very good looking)Also, he manages to stay out of the limelight, rarely splashed across the pages of the gossip mags like so many other thrill seeking celebs that "regular" people seem to worship. He also is very professional, I read that he never complained once during the making of Edward Scissorhands, in that tight leather outfit in the heat. This is how celebs should be-after all they get paid enough! Unfortunately most are divas, and sadly, people idolize them.
