Know what you want to do in your life.
Everyone has different expectations in what they want in life. Some people's life goals just do not mesh with other people's life goals. This becomes seriously apparent when one person in the relationship wants to get married or have children.
Marriage and children are just two examples of what a person might want in their life. At times it can come down to something as simple as educational goals. Personally, I'm think that everyone should try to learn as much as they can in their lifetime.
It is never to late to obtain that Associate degree, Bachelor, Masters, or Doctrine degree. I'm sure you can understand my surprise when a previous boyfriend started commenting that I did not need to go to college and that a college degree was useless. He knew that I was working towards a college degree at the time.
His proof was the fact that a friend had obtained an Associate degree but currently working as a sales clerk. He then began to degrade anyone who thought that a higher education was important.
Where did that relationship end up? You guessed it. That romance ended up with me moving out and giving him a piece of my mind before I closed the door behind me.
Learn to follow your intuition while dating
If something doesn't feel right while dating another person then it may break up the relationship in the future. YourTango.com recently ended a dating tips article called '10 signs that he's not the one' with:
" On paper he seems great, but you have this strange feeling.."
I have to agree with this sentence whole-heartedly. He or she may have the perfect body, personality, job, set of friends, and goals. If your gut is telling you that something is wrong then it's time to start asking questions on why you feel this way.
Understand that you can't change a person
Do you know how many times I have asked my husband to wipe the counter in the seven years that we have been together? I finally got to a point that I just stopped telling him to wipe the counter because I learned that ninety percent of the time he wouldn't do it.
The only person that you can change is yourself. Everyone has habits and flaws in their personality. What habits and flaws are you willing to live with? What habits and flaws in the relationship can both of you work together on? What habits and flaws can you not live with?
Remember that a relationship is a partnership. It should be two people enjoying the adventures of life. If you sit down and decide what you really want in a relationship then more than likely you'll end up obtaining what you want.
