Wrong
Or "it's a cartoon/ kids channel/ show of course it ok to see"
Wrong
Or just "it's OK?
Again wrong.
Maybe you think figuring out what is OK for your child to watch is easy, but it's more difficult than you think. Some of the greatest TV shows have things in there you might have never seen coming. And if you are wondering why your teenaged kid is watching cartoons again, laughing a lot more then he used to, its because he now understands many jokes you though only YOU knew.
Here is a Rating for Naruto.
Being one of the most famous and successful anime show in America, it is seen everywhere, from borders to maybe your TV screen. It begun with twelve-year-old Naruto wanting to graduate from the ninja academy so he can become Hokage, the most powerful ninja and leader of the hidden leaf village Konoha. Seems exactly what a nine-year-old boy would want to watch so far right?
Here's the one thing, Naruto's favorite Jutsu at the beginning is Sexy Jutsu. Yes a Jutsu that makes him a transsexual naked/ bikini wearing girl covered in clouds. In the original Japanese Dub and in the uncut versions, many (male) teachers with bloody noses, and a typical thing to happen in Japanese symbolic for... if you don't know already, I can't explain it better. Also he goes into book shops to look at magazines that the owner always stops him from looking at. Also Naruto's sensei (teacher) reads the "make-out make out" series. Written by Naruto's later teacher in the series who he calls "Pervy Sage" in the English and Ero-sennin" in the Japanese.
In the dubbed version they cover this up pretty well by taking out all the bloody noses.
So move the age scale up a bit from the 6-12 to the 12-18 range for that.
Now the next part is the violence, in the Naruto world there are many ninja wars which of course are accompanied by violence and death, which is a major point in the story line, that and the bonds of friendships. Many characters will have lost their family/ friends parents to violence, making this a rough topic, and it's never an easy get away for Naruto, he always fights and suffers. Sometimes teammates or villains die, but Naruto always changes someone for the better no matter what mission it is. This makes violence a more realistic fact considering the fact there is pain and suffering.
That brings down the age scale from 12-18 to 10-17.
Unless you child has a fear of people dying or being left an orphan, in that case 13-18.
There is also the slight homosexual tension that exists in the show that may or may not affect if you let your child view this depending on you views of homosexuality, if you don't care, skip this paragraph, keep in mind though it is only slight because of one incident in an episode that was kept out of the English dub. In an early episode, Naruto is pushed and ends up kissing Sasuke, his main rival in the show. That is about it for the canon story, if your child goes online to watch AMV's (animated music video) reads fan fiction( fiction written by fans of the show) or looks up images on devientart.com it can become more homosexual as the sasunaru (or narusasu) shippers are in a large number. (Shippers are a group of fans that believe that the characters should be in a relationship, see tvropes.org for clarification (search ho yay Naruto for all examples))
IF you believe homosexuality needs to be kept away from children's eyes, make sure they don't watch un-cut.
There is one episode where in the actual Japanese Dub (the original form Japan) A side Character Rock Lee drinks a bottle of sake a Japanese alcohol and unlocks his drunken fighter mode (that kicks but) in eh English dub they covered up the blushing that represents drunkenness in anime and called it "elixir."
Really move the age bar down to 9- 16.
Another thing to mention is the language in the English Dub, it is very watered down. Naruto's catch phrase is "believe it" which is heard less times that "darn it" which replaces all cuss words that were in the subbed Japanese, including S*** and D***.
Lowers it to 9-14 There is also a character that reminds some of the older audience of a child molester or serial rapist, or just a cult leader. This villain drives much of the story line and also causes the initial rising action that leads to the intelligent story line, opening the age group to a 9-17 age group. Why are all these things so much more watered down in the English dub you may ask? Because Japan has different standards than America, and the fact that in America cartoons are for kids. N Japan anime is enjoyed by a variety of ages over what most people would think they would here in America. This is simply because they are different types of cartoon. With an interesting storyline, a view into another culture and many action and comedy scenes that keep the attention to the screen Naruto is a good anime that is fun to watch.
No matter what you read here, what your child watches should still be determined by the parent, this is just a recommendation.
