Advertising in newspapers is one of the oldest forms of advertising. Even after all this time placing ads in newspaper is still a great way to advertise. This is still a very popular way for big and small companies to sale their products.

Even though newspaper sales and subscribers are going down, a lot of people still read the newspaper. The cost of advertising in newspapers is actually on the raise compared to advertising on television and radio.

A lot of people advertise in the newspaper without know how to properly create ads.

Most companies think that they are best at creating their own advertisement. For small businesses this might be best if they are able to reach the right client base. When placing your ad make sure that you get the advertisement placed in the right spot. If you place your advertisement in the right position it's not needed to pay the price for a full-page to place your ad.

Don't use a lot of color in your ad. That will only raise the price and it's usually not worth the extra money. Black font is fine for your ad if you don't have a lot of money to spend. Since the same readers tend to read the paper everyday it's better to place your ads in different newspapers. You can arrange it where your ad is shown two or three times a week in a certain newspaper. It might be wise to wait and have your ad ran in the weekend edition, a lot more people read the newspaper on the weekend. You will probably have to wait awhile before you can get space for advertising in the newspaper weekend edition because those spots sells out fast.

Since a lot of advertisers will have ads in the weekend edition it will be easy for potential customers to miss your ad, so you will have to come up with ways to beat your competitors. Only a few readers actually read the newspaper from front to end. So it is best to pay for advertisement on the first and last page of the newspaper once a week.

The number of small town newspapers goes down every year. A lot of people in small neighborhoods are now only reading weekly newspapers. Most of the time the same publisher runs all of the smaller newspapers. Make sure you know your audience before advertising in newspapers. You will only waste money if you are advertising to the wrong people. Advertising in different outlets is a great way to ensure more customers. You might find success in one advertising outlet that you don't find in another.
