Is Oprah Winfrey Afraid of Sarah Palin?
It seems that while "half her staff" want to put Sarah Palin on, Oprah Winfrey and her top people are adamantly against it. The reason seems to stem from fears of how such an appearance by the popular woman candidate would affect the campaign of Barack Obama for President, which Oprah Winfrey is supporting.
Oprah Winfrey also recently refused to have Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas on during a book tour.
Oprah Winfrey introduced Barack Obama late last year in an event in which she was very effusive in her praise of the candidate. Even though Oprah's very mention of a product, such as a book, ensures that the product will receive a healthy spike in sales, she got an angry backlash from many of her viewers over her endorsement of Barack Obama. Oprah Winfrey's freeze out of Sarah Palin will likely not endear her to her mainly female audience.
The largest part of Oprah Winfrey's audience are women over the age of 55, mostly married, tending toward conservative. Sarah Palin is very popular among this demographic. From a purely business standpoint, having Sarah Palin on the Oprah Winfrey show would be a no brainer. Sarah Palin, in public settings so far, has come across as very personable and friendly and would seem to be a perfect guest for any talk show such as Oprah Winfrey's.
It seems, though, that Oprah Winfrey is willing to alienate her audience again for purely political reasons. Purely from a career standpoint, the decision to ban Sarah Palin from the Oprah Winfrey Show seems rather odd.
Oprah Winfrey did not use to choose her guests on a political basis. During the 2000 Campaign, even though it was pretty clear that she supported the Democratic candidate, Oprah Winfrey had both Vice President Al Gore and then Governor George W. Bush on her show. In fact she seemed quite visibly charmed by Bush during his appearance.
Oprah Winfrey's website is getting a deluge of request to put Sarah Palin on the show. Some of her people are already warning her of a huge backlash among her fan base if she continues to refuse.

Post a CommentI turned off Oprah a long time ago. Ellen is definitely the one to watch. I know Oprah has many loyal fans, but she turns many people off with her abrasive behind the scenes behavior. With her billions, she probably doesn't care what the rest of us think. However, as visible as her show is, she should at least attempt to show both sides of an issue.

as far as I'm concerned it has become " Oprah Who",,,,,,I stopped watching her months ago and yes I'm the over 55 ,white conservative female who helped make her.........Oprah has let her audience down and I for one wpould like to see her off the air, her shows are becoming too off the wall for me, even the late night talk hosts have given equal air time to both parties " I think the liberal crowd is running scared" Sarah Palin is an inspiration, her family is gorgeous and they are so much like middle America it brings tears to my eyes.,this is one voter who was undecided.....now the McCain Palin ticket gets my whole families votes, John McCain is also the leader this country needs

OPRAH'S STATEMENT: "The item in today's Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over."
Yet who is we hear, ad nauseum, that someone is trying to deny them their First Amendment rights? Ya can't swing a dead cat over your head without hitting some lame Liberal screaming they are being silenced, but when truth sees the light of day, it would appear it is the same ones screaming about imagined injustice, and these are the ones denying that same free speech. Libs want a return of the Fairness Doctrine to silence talk radio, yet they have the whole mainstream media doing their bidding. It is the Lefties that are trying to deny Conservatives fair access to media. The longer I live the more I am convinced that Liberals are rather dishonest in the main, and seem to have no souls as well.
Great reporting. Though I can't stand her, I'm all for reading about anything that exposes Oprah for the horrible and obnoxious person she is.
