Is Orangutan Island Going to Replace Meerkat Manor on Animal Planet?

Meerkat Manor is a reality show that airs on Animal Planet that follows the lives of a group of meerkats called the Whiskers. In recent months, most of the viewers' favorite meerkats have died. Some fans understand that the researchers cannot interfere with the meerkats while others feel that they have already interfered simply by being there. But whichever side of the debate you're on, it's clear that Meerkat Manor is slowly losing its appeal as more and more of the stars die. When Flower died, that was the worst loss that I have seen since I started watching it. After all, she was the dominant female of the Whiskers group. And with the death of Flower's daughter, Mozart, some fans are choosing to discontinue watching the show to avoid the heartache.

The survival of Meerkat Manor is dependent on the stars. And the accidental deaths aren't the only issue that threatens the show. There has been an outbreak of TB that is killing many of the beloved meerkats and there is little that the researchers can do to help them.

As if the show didn't have enough issues, the Whiskers group has broken into two smaller groups. In some ways, this is good news for the meerkats because it's easier to sustain a smaller group. But for the show, it means trying to follow two groups: the Whiskers and the Aztecs. While the show does follow other meerkat groups to some degree, the stars have always been the Whiskers. And if your favorite meerkat is in the Aztecs, the chances are good that you'll see little of your favorite.

Meerkat Manor also has a large following of young people, which is apparent from the forums. But as the deaths are becoming more frequent, parents are starting to question if their kids should be watching this reality television show. And a bigger problem with children fans is that they cannot afford the $50 membership with the KMP to obtain more detailed information about the meerkats. While the KMP and Animal Planet are two entirely separate things, it's the KMP that has all the detailed information about the meerkats that isn't available on the television show (such as detailed meerkat family trees).

Animal Planet must be feeling the fans departure from the show because Orangutan Island is being advertised as the next Meerkat Manor. The commercials are suggesting that Orangutan Island will be the next big hit. While it isn't being said, it seems that Orangutan Island may be Meerkat Manor's replacement. Animal Planet's advertisements have angered many Meerkat Manor fans. On the Animal Planet forum, many people are saying they refuse to watch Orangutan Island.

Meerkats are very different animals from orangutans. If Animal Planet is looking for a show that'll be as big of a hit as Meerkat Manor, they need to keep shopping. Meerkat Manor has that certain unexplainable special something that cannot be duplicated.

Meerkat Manor is planned to return next summer. But how long it will last is anyone's guess. After all, there will no longer be a show if the Whisker's members keep dying unless the show switches to following a rival clan of Meerkats.
