There are many benefits to owning a pet. Stroking a pet is very therapeutic and relaxing. Pets can help lower your blood pressure, which will help you lead a longer and healthier life. It's also comforting and soothing to have a dog or cat rubbing at your leg or jumping into your lap when they see you. Playing with a pet is fun and also good exercise. You can have an excellent running partner in your dog or cat. Having a cat or dog and gives you pride and confidence of that comes from taking care and responsibility of another living thing. Pets are good company and make you feel less lonely when they're around.
If you don't have the money to take care of the pet properly, owning a pet isn't right for you, at least for the time being. Pets are expensive to take care of and require lots of care and attention. If you don't have enough space for a pet, having a pet isn't right for you either. If you lived in a cramped apartment and barely have enough room for you, getting a pet isn't going to be a good idea. If you can barely take care of a houseplant, you shouldn't get a pet either. Pets need more than a little soil, water, and plant food. If you hardly have time to feed yourself, you shouldn't get a pet either. If you hardly have time to make yourself a sandwich, you're not even going to have time to feed a fish.
If you're allergic to pet dander, aren't a cat or dog person, or aren't allowed to keep them in your home, there are still some good pet options for you. There are other pets such as fish, birds, hamsters, and gerbils which are easy to take care and don't cost a lot of money. There's nothing like taking care of another living thing to give you a sense of pride and self worth. If you don't have all the things it requires to take care of a pet including energy and commitment, owning a pet isn't right for you.
