Is Pantene Pro-V Bad for Your Hair?

Jody Morse
As a consistent fan of Pantene Pro-V products, you can imagine my surprise when I was first told that Pantene products are not healthy for your hair. The first time that I heard it, my first assumption was that my hairstylist was trying to sell me a new hair product and just wanted to bash Pantene Pro-V to do so. Over the years, I have gone to several stylists and they have all said the same exact thing - that Pantene Pro-V is not healthy for your hair. The reason that they all gave me was because Pantene Pro-V strips your hair of its natural oils. To me, that didn't sound like such a bad thing. Who really wants oily hair? After a little bit of research, I learned some information that any fan of Pantene Pro-V products may be interested in knowing.

Pantene Pro-V Promotes Build-Up

The main reason that Pantene Pro-V products are often recognized as bad for your hair is because they are known to promote excess build-up in the hair. Over time, enough excess build-up from Pantene Pro-V can cause bigger problems, such as dandruff. You are probably wondering where the excess build-up comes from. Well, many of the chemicals that are used in Pantene Pro-V shampoos and conditioners are known to be harder to remove from the hair than chemicals used in other hair care products. This is why Pantene Pro-V promotes excess build-up in the long run.

Pantene Pro-V Can Still Be Used

While Pantene Pro-V is known to promote build-up, you do not need to discontinue the use of Pantene products. Most hairstylists recommend that you do not use the same hair products at all times, so that your scalp does not become overly adjusted to one. Such is true with Pantene Pro-V products. Changing hair products regularly and frequently is one of the best things that you can do in order to prevent excess build-up caused by Pantene products. Another thing that you can do in order to ensure that Pantene does not cause build-up in your hair is use a clarifying shampoo once to twice a week.

If you frequently use Pantene Pro-V hair products, there is a good chance that you love them because they are known to make hair more manageable and give it that extra shine that we all desire. Just make sure that you do all that you can to prevent Pantene Pro-V from causing excess build-up in your hair. Also remember that this can happen with just about any other shampoo or conditioner, so do not credit build-up to Pantene products alone.

All I can say is I tried Pantene for curly hair and went into it with positive thoughts. I wanted it to work, but my hair looked and felt like hay after it tried. I was completely disappointed. Pantene sucks!

Most people's comments are saying Pantene products are bad and switching shampoos every few days is a good idea. My thing is, isn't Pantene Pro V for "women of color" or relaxed hair? I am a women of color and I do not wash my hair everyday and Pantene Pro V has been working pretty well for me since I have been using it. Good info though (I was doing some research and came across this article)

I was a long time user of Pantene until I noticed that I was losing ALOT of hair. And my hair looked and felt dry and brittle, and greasy all at the same time. I never figured out what was causing it until my hairdresser asked me if I used Pantene, she told me that with 99% accuracy she could tell who used it because their hair looked just like mine. The only time in my life that I ever got zits in my back and shoulders was when Pantene as well. I wouldn't buy it again if it was free.

okay with pantene it coats your hair with wax! but not all "salon" brands are that great either! some of them you are better off getting a drug store brand! do research, and some stylist are trying to just sell you products just to get money if that is how you feel then ask alot of questions know what you will ask before you go in! and if they really aren't trying to tell you the pro's and con's of products then it might not be worth buy!
