Is Perception Reality with Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus Innocent Victim or Clever Entertainer?

Jacob Twist
Is Miley Cyrus an innocent victim or clever entertainer? Miley Cyrus is no fool and neither are her parents. The so-called "controversy" with the pictures of her in suggestive poses taken for the June 2008 issue of Vanity Fair magazine is pure bull honestly. The 15 year old actress and singer is best known for starring in the Disney Channel hit sitcom Hannah Montana. There is no such thing as a "controversy" here, plain and simple. As a minor it is the parents responsibility to watch and take care of her.

The thing here is that some of that responsibility is being blurred a bit. Between her personal and professional life. Who she is as a person and what she does as a job/career. She is a child performer and a minor, who is also an entertainer. And as such most are energetic, attention seeking individuals. And Miley Cyrus is definitely in that category. They want to show and tell, to be liked, even loved by family, friends and everyone. She has a "team" of people advising and guiding her every move. She must have an agent, manager and publicist along with her parents.

There is a fine line that one must walk and tread. I see it as getting publicity while the iron is hot and not to lose popularity and awareness among the public but more importantly among her fan base. You are only as good as your last hit film or song. Does anyone remember Hilary Duff or Melissa Joan Hart? Sure they are still around but they are no longer at the forefront or center stage. Their time has come and gone. One thing is for certain, life is full of changes and nothing lasts forever. So the thinking is that to keep celebrity- actors, singers and entertainers must keep changing and evolving. In her case, doing things that can trigger a controversy or debate. After all boring and dull is no fun. Because as the saying goes- any publicity, good or bad is attention. Its good for work and business.

I believe that there is a method to all this madness, a cleverly planned agenda in guiding, expanding and maintaining her career as an actress and singer.
She is among Forbes magazine's 20 richest under 25 list, at #17 with $3.5 million for 2007. Was ranked #1 on TV Guide Top 10 Teen Star Countdown (2008). Was ranked #22 on Entertainment Weekly's '30 Under 30' the actress list. (2008). In January 2008, she legally changed her name from Destiny Hope Cyrus ( her birth name) to Miley Ray Cyrus( her stage name).

She is just trying to stay relevant and current in this environment. because nobody wants to be a "has-been". It is also a very different atmosphere in the entertainment industry today- in film , television and music. We live in a world where "immediate gratification" is such the norm. Weather its cell phones and text or instant messaging. Or mp3 players uploading and downloading videos or music. Its paparazzi taking pictures everywhere and social network websites such as Myspace and Facebook.

Is Miley Cyrus in it for the fame and fortune or is this truly her passion?. I really think that she is passionate about acting and singing and that she is in it for the long run. So seriously people, you can think globally ( in this case Miley Cyrus) but act locally ( in this case, your own child). Do you know what they are up to lately?

Just as it was with Britney Spears and the Olsen sisters, it seems every little boy and girl star like Cyrus is set up by the media to have a controversial issue as the backdrop to the inevitable "coming out" into adulthood. The more slimey sector of media makes loads off this activity, whilst the subjects of their reporting may suffer from it, and the news addicts get their daily fix of filth.
