Is Pirates Of The Caribbean Over-Marketed?

All Pirated Out

E. Hignutt
The release date of the latest installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, comes ever closer and already, pirate stuff is everywhere -- from toy stores to TV commercials.

The video game is out; the movie isn't yet. The ads are in force, but not yet for the movie itself, but rather the STUFF.

From gold toothed pirates eating at fast food places, to the endless array of Jack Sparrow and crew toys, figurines, and don't forget -- the video game.

Perhaps unfortunately for the video gamer, the Pirate games include scenes and battles from the movies. While we all want to know what happened after last year's dramatic cliff hanger, getting a glimpse via a game is a bit disappointing.

With the pirate money making machine in full swing, by the end of May, I may just pass up on the cinema. Pirates everywhere. One can get sick of pirates.

Although, it would be nice to find out if the movie answers all of the dangling questions left over from the last.

Will the dog be rescued from the island? (And will there be another scene inserted in the credits?)

What will happen to the East India Trading Company?

Davy Jones Heart? Will he get it back? Will he finally be gone once and for all?

Will Will Turner's father be released from Davy Jones' ship? And if he is, does that mean he's dead? After all, Davy Jones scooped him up from being strapped to cannonballs at the bottom of the sea.

And what about the marriage between Elizabeth and Will? Don't forget that Will saw Elizabeth kissing Jack at the end of the last movie....

Since Elizabeth's father, the governor of Port Royal, basically sold his soul to the current living evil goer of the film, will he get back his dignity? After all, his dignity is what made him the character that he was and fleshed him out into a believable character. Otherwise, he would rate as stock cardboard stand in.

What of the Black Pearl? And what of the current crew? And those two comic-relief pirates -- the ones with the dog to begin with?

Overall, there's a lot of answers the masses are awaiting. The big question -- will the film live up and give us all of the answers?

And for those of you not pirated out yet, don't worry-- they'll be plenty of pirate costumes come Halloween.
