Is it Possible to Make Money Assembling Products at Home?

Bennie Perry
How many times have you seen the ads? They're all over the magazines, Internet and work at home directories. Maybe you have even gone so far as to ask yourself; is this for real, and if it is, how much money can I possibly make? That answer to both of these questions is yes. But before you get happy, the question is not so much can you make money; but how much garbage am I going to have to sort through before I find a truly legitimate opportunity?

There are a multitude of reasons why this type of work may be attractive to someone. With rising gas prices, inflation and the devalued face of the dollar, many people are looking for extra ways to bring extra income into the household. If this sounds like you, and you are in dire need of a making some extra money, this may sound like easy work for good pay. You may even have a desire to use this opportunity as a full time income, or you may know someone who is disabled, and cannot work a regular job. If you are the type of person who likes to pay attention to detail, and likes to use their hands, this may be an opportunity for you.

What are the different types of products that these companies may want you to assemble from home? Well it varies, and depends on the type of company that you decide to contract with. Some of the different types of products that you may be required to assemble are baby bibs, CD cases, coasters, woodcrafts, sunglasses or picture frames, to name a few. This is by no means an all-exhaustive list, but is only to give you a rough idea of the different types of products which all available.

There are a ton of other products that you may be given the opportunity to assemble, and the only requirements to perform this kind of work is that you be able to use your hands well, and that you have the ability to meet deadlines. If you can meet these requirements, you're ready to go to work!

You may be asking yourself; why do these companies need me to assemble their products from home? The answer to this is very simple. It saves them a large sum of money, because they do not have any four-time employees, they are not required to pay any health benefits, or provide any retirement plans. It makes a lot more sense for them to hire this work out to subcontractors, and this is actually the wave of the future. Imagine if these companies had to put up the money to build the assembly plants, and hire the workers, it would cost them a lot more money over time. This is therefore a win-win situation for both parties.

In closing, before you decide to subcontract with any work-at-home company, make sure that you take the time to investigate them. A good place to start is the Better Business Bureau of the city for which the company is incorporated. If the company asks you for any upfront money, this should always raise a red flag. Most legitimate work at home companies will never ask you to pay any up front money, but will only ask you to provide them with a copy of your W9 tax form.
