Is it Possible to Write a Novel in a Weekend?

Jimmy Smith
A question that has to be on many people's minds is: is it possible to write a novel in a weekend? I will be the first to say, yes it is. I wrote a novel over 50,000 words in a weekend, and it was very tough. Nanowrimo offers up several of these types of competitions challenging many writers to write as much as they possibly can over the shortest period of time.

Now the first thing I want to say is that I type very fast, and that means that it wasn't particularly hard for me to write the novel in a weekend. In fact if I really pushed myself I could probably type a 50,000 word novel in a day. That being with out sleep of course, as it would take me the full twenty four hours to write it. Also you should note that when you do write a whole lot in a day that the quality of the writing tends to take a downward spiral. But you can always go back an edit, right? Isn't that what editing is for?

Writing a novel in a weekend is a tough thing to do, I mean at the end of it, my hands hurt, my brain hurt. Everything hurt, it felt like I had put a full day of work in and then some. At the end my novel came out pretty good and I continue to edit and make changes to it to this day. In order to actually write a novel in a weekend, you need a lot of peace and quiet. It is also important to get up and stretch your wrist and what not.

Another key thing to do when you are writing a novel in a weekend is to stay up for as many hours as possible writing. This means that drinking coffee will be key as well as getting enough rest before you even begin to write the novel. Having a set out plan is the best way to get your novel done in a weekend.

In conclusion, writing a novel in a weekend isn't easy, it is a tough adventure and undertaking that will require your strict focus and a lot of discipline. It is so easy to get distracted and just say "forget about it". But with the proper plan and enough rest, and few distractions you should be able to complete that novel in a weekend.
