Is President Obama Keeping His Promises?

510 Made During Campaign

During a campaign, candidates tend to make a lot of promises in order to get elected. The St. Petersburg Times has created a non-partisan fact-checking project in order to help the public identify the truth in politics. The site provided a 'truth-o-meter' during the campaign for each of the candidates.

Now Politifact has researched President Obama's campaign promises and compiled a list of 510 specific promises made. How many of those promises has he already kept and how many has he broken?

The Politifact website tracks and rates his progress on keeping his promises with their 'Obameter'. As of January 25, 2009, he had already kept five, compromised on one, and broken none. Additionally, he had stalled on one, had 14 in the works, and had produced no action on 488.

One rated as 'kept' was his promise that on his first day in office, he would give the military the new mission of ending the war. The one rated as 'compromised' related to tougher rules regarding 'revolving doors' for lobbyists and former officials.
