Is Proper Business Attire Preventing Your Job Promotion?

Proper business attire could be keeping you from getting that job promotion that has passed you by recently. That's because many of us have the wrong impression on what we should and should not be wearing to work each day. Business clothes have come a long way but studies have shown that the business attire women choose to wear to work plays a large deciding factor in how far up the corporate ladder they will actually make it. Are you wearing appropriate business attire to work everyday so that you can get the job promotion that you truly deserve?

Business Clothes Suited for a Job Promotion:

The business clothes that you wear should be suited for the job and the job promotion that you hope to receive. What this means is that you must wear clothing attire that is suited to the corporate arena that you work in. For most, this means business suits, non-revealing shirts and skirts that extend at least to 2 fingers above the knee. Anything that is too revealing could be hurting your job promotion abilities.

Proper business attire for women includes blouses that show very little cleavage, blazers, slacks or skirts that are appropriately long enough and err on the conservative side. When it comes to a job promotion, you want to know that the promotion came based on the fact that you know your job and you have the skills necessary to warrant the promotion--not that you chose to show some skin to get the job! The business attire that women chose can and will have an impact on their promotion abilities--whether it is in a positive or a negative way depends on the clothing that the woman is wearing!

Proper Business Attire for Women:

Shirts and Blouses: Women should not wear blouses that are revealing. Very little to no cleavage should in the workplace and a shirt should definitely not be see through. All of these signs say that you aren't confident in your skills and maybe you can count on your body to get the job promotion. This is not a message that you want sent across the corporate board!

Skirts: Skirts should never be shorter than 2 fingers above the knee! A short skirt that reveals the thighs is definitely not proper business attire. A long flowing skirt is a better option as is a business suit that has a skirt that is nearly knee length. Both of these say that you are conservative which is usually what is most favored by a corporate board and the individuals on the upper ladder that will be in charge of the job promotion.

Seasonal Wear: The business attire women wear to work should reflect the season but not to the point that it looks like you are ready to hit the beach after work. Tank tops with spaghetti straps should be avoided as should halter tops that are revealing. Sarongs and other summer style attire that are better suited for the beach than the office should be avoided in order to get the job promotion that you are actively pursuing.

Shoes: Boots, heels and pumps are all acceptable business attire for a promotion. Sandals, flip flops, and tennis shoes will not get you very far. Flip flops say that you just don't care, tennis shoes are tacky with business clothes and sandals are only proper for business on some occasions. Avoid these when you are anticipating a job promotion!
