Is Psychic Phenomena Associated with Lucid Dreaming?

Mark Mielke
Are you familiar with the concept of lucid dreaming? Are you a lucid dreamer? Do you know what psychic phenomena is? Are you a psychic? Lucid dreaming and psychic phenomena have something in common... they are both down using the powers of the mind. But what is psychic ability, and what is lucid dreaming? Let's take a brief look at both of them.

When a person has psychic powers, this does not mean that they are some sort of freak, or superhuman. A person with psychic powers can do one of many things. They may be able to see or communicate with spirits more easily than the rest of the population. They might possess an ability called telekinesis, which is the ability to move objects with your mind. They might be able to glimpse into the future or have visions of it, like Nostradamus. There are many more psychic abilities as well, including mind reading, the ability to see auras, there was even one psychic woman who had the power to run her hands over a map and pick out spots that were rich in oil and coal.

Lucid dreaming is something far different from psychic phenomena. A lucid dream is a dream in which the dream is vividly clear and the person knows that they are dreaming. Because the person knows they are dreaming, they can manipulate and control aspects of their dream. A person in a lucid dream can exercise a wide variety of powers over their dream, such as flying, teleporting, speed, moving objects with their mind, super strength, pretty much anything you can think of, an expert lucid dreamer can do. I myself can do almost anything I want when I dream (which leads to fantastic situations, as you can imagine). Lucid dreaming is also an efficient tool for dealing with nightmares, as if you know you are dreaming, then you know the nightmare cannot physically hurt you (mentally is another story).

So how are these two completely different areas of science linked? Some people believe that lucid dreaming and psychic ability are linked somehow. It would make sense, as both are done using the powers of the mind. But lucid dreaming does not affect the real world, right? Well, you have to think for a little bit about it. Lucid dreamers generally have less stress and more artistic talent than your average person. They also tend to be in better health. Isn't it possible that lucid dreaming, if it can enhance these other traits, can enhance a person's potential for psychic ability? Let us try to make some connections between the two now.

Lucid dreaming and psychic ability are linked by the instrument that is used to control both of them, the mind. When a person engages in lucid dreaming, what they are unknowingly, even to them, doing is exercising and strengthening their mental ability. If they improve their mental capacity and ability, then it is possible that they are conditioning their mind to use psychic ability better. A person has to have some sort of mental conditioning to use psychic phenomena of any kind. Most psychics are simply born with this mental conditioning.

Another thing linking psychic ability and lucid dreaming is age. Studies show that children and younger adults have the best nonpracticed lucid dreaming capacity. Studies also show that children and younger adults have a higher capacity for psychic ability. Coincidence? These topics are both ones that are strange and new to many people. Neither is concrete and both may change in the near future. But until more is found out about them both, it is interesting to speculate about them.
