The Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith was the much anticipated movie event of the holiday season and it didn't disappoint. The Pursuit of Happyness was expected to top the box office in its first weekend beginning with its release to general theatres on Friday, December 16, 2006. The film was based in large part on an actual account of the events of the life of Chris Gardner. Gardner, played by Will Smith, fell victim to a series of unfortunate events that led to financial struggles that caused him to become homeless with a young son named Christopher, played by Will Smith's son Jaden Smith.

The father-son tandem lit up the silver screen and wowed audience. Will Smith put on the performance of a lifetime. The usually comical Smith impressed fans with his somber and apathy-drawing performance in The Pursuit of Happyness. After seeing the movie, it's hard to imagine a more perfect casting fit for this movie. Both Will and his son Jaden were the perfect combo to real the audiences in and impress the viewers. Also, Thandie Newton plays Smith's estranged wife Linda in this heartbreaking drama, which was directed by Gabriele Muccino.

Will Smith's previous roles have included his hit comedy television show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, the blockbuster movie hit Independence Day, and most recently Hitch. All have solidified Will Smith's status as a superstar, but none have elevated him to the extreme elite of Hollywood stars such as Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, and Tom Hanks. The Pursuit of Happyness is Will Smith's ticket to that level of fame. Multiple Oscars are sure to follow from this outstanding performance.

Overall, the film covers all the necessary bases for a super blockbuster movie. Superstar who delivers a career performance - Check. Have an outstanding storyline that relates to the everyday man and inspires audiences - Check. Weave a story worth owning on DVD - Check. The Pursuit of Happyness is inspirational and downright heart filling that deserves four stars! So if you are looking for an outstanding movie for you and your family this Christmas season, be sure to watch Will Smith's performance in The Pursuit of Happyness.
